700 SPS Tactical & SPS Varmint

Hey all...

Was out again the other day with the SPS. Shooting quater sized groups at 100 yards and eradicating pop cans at 200 yards. What fun!

I have had A LOT of guns through my collecting time, but I have to say that the precision and pleasure-to-shootability of the rifle makes it my favorite.

Took my 700 sps-v out to the range yesterday. Keeping in mind that I am a relative newbie to rifles, I was able to shoot a quarter sized three shot grouping at 200 yards. (remington express 55 grain psp .223 rem.) This being the first occasion I have ever shot any rifle at any distance past 100 yards, I would have to assume that this accuracy has more to do with the rifle than the shooter.

Too bad there's no gophers here in Abbotsford. I miss Alberta...

the only difference between 700P and SPSS-V is the stock ans finishing....
the barrel is the same 1:12 twist and degrees dished crown:)

I thought the 700P has a 1/9 twist?

Have a few questions and your opinions are valued.

What are the benifites for a M700 VSF over a M700 SPS-V?
-fluted barrel
-much better stock
the actions are 100% the same?

Is that worth an extra 400$?
Lets say i find a stock i like better than the VSF. what could i get for it(ball park)?
I dont have glass yet(havnt even researched it yet). is $400 worth more in glass than a fluted barrel?

im thinking turtle vrs the hair.
i dont mind dishing out the extra cash now if i will regret not doing so later. but i also dont want to throw away money.

Great deal

You can get a full fledged Police or LTR for the same price of cheaper

I'm pretty sure he was talking about an LTR

Any news on the SPS tactical model? Any in country?

My buddy just bought an SPS Tactical .223 from Perry's Gun Shop in the SOO. $ 679 before taxes and yes, we don't mind supporting Jane and Reg Perry since they are the best with fabulous service over and over again.

We just mounted a Bushnell 3200 Elite Mildot 10x 40mm scope tonight using Leupold turn-in rings and a Weaver ONE Piece hunting base (nothing fancy, but a great price from Ellwood Epps in Orillia).

I'll get back to you all once we sight that baby in with a range report to follow.

recently bought a Rem. 700 SPS varminter in .243 as a harder hitting alternative to my .22-250. all factory ammo tested @ 100 yds., printed groups between .25 and .8 inches. the rifle cost me $590+tax(iv'e heard that the key to the low cost is the stock, apparently it costs remington about $3-$4 to produce it), i topped it with a Burris Black Diamond 8-32x50mm scope, am very happy with the whole package.

good luck, good shooting

So who else is stocking the SPS Tactical, and what are they charging for it? Money is real tight and since this is over $400 cheaper than LTR it's starting to look better and better, bet it would make a nice hunting rifle too.

The SPS tacticals are around. Really friggin hard to find. I know of two in BC. One is mine as of tomorrow, and the other is in .223 at our distributors. I too will let you guys know how it is (btw thanks to babyseal for getting me hooked). Retail is around $749 out here... depending on discounts.

Remington 700 SPS Tactical

Got my Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308. Barrel wasn't very free floating, but I guess the rubber stock didn't make much of a difference on the heavy bbl. First 5 rounds were nothing spectaculer (as to be expected). Rounds 6-8 however:

700Group.jpg

Largest group was .8" due to shooter (difficult to see aiming point in the rain). Avg group was .55"

Won $1 for hitting the dime at 100yds (I know its illegal, but so is going 55km/h in a 50 zone). Anyways, any questions on the rifle, lemme know.
