7mm 08 A few Questions

Since the 7-08 is ballistically the same as the European 7x57. Moose hunting in Finland with the 7x57 is the most popular caliber, and it gets the job done.

All the "cool kids" shoot 7.08's :)

What is your budget like for the rifle only?

That will help some of us toss ideas at you. After all, since it sounds like you have decided on the caliber now you are really just shopping for "fit" and what makes you say "I want that".

If you light your camp fire with 100 dollar bills and want a super light rifle to hump through the Rockies, Kimber makes some sweet, very light rifles.

If you are poor like most of us but CAN drop 1K on the rifle only there is some fine guns out there.

If you have less but want quality then a good used hunting rifle rarely see's a great deal of use (I have a 1957 Remington that probably hasn't seen 150 rounds in it's lifetime - it's a "hunting rifle" not a range/target gun).

That's some funny stuff you posted ,! No, I don't light fires with hundreds. LOL !

Okay let's say $1000.00 for the rifle alone ! Then I have to put a scope on it . I like wood stocks , but I'm not totally against the idea of a composite stock . I really would like this to be a great rifle. Of course if it doesn't feel right when it goes up to my shoulder well there 's no point in buying it. My firearms are going to get handed down one day to my son so......

So you and the others can start throwing ideas my way please ! Also include how you might scope it ! think about it like What about a Sako ?

Thanks !

Personally

I would seriously look at the Vanguard line.

They have more than just the synthetic ones.

IMO very good rifles.

Good shooter and fit well.

Add - Just looked on the Weatherby site , a few in wood that look real nice, go shoulder one , you may be impressed.

How long is your barrel? With a 22", 44 grains of Varget (which is a stiff load in the books, but no pressure signs in my rifle) and a 140 Berger hunting VLD I'm getting high 2700s (have to check my notes for exact average.)

22". Tried varget everything shot like crap. Tried h4350 and everything was great. I am getting 2895fps with 139gr interlock

If you are going to pass it down I would go with a model 70. I got a supergrade recently for 1299. As for optic I put on a vx2 in gloss really like that combo

I would go for the Winchester Mod 70. Either the Sporter or Featherweight, whichever one fits you better (I prefer the FWT). They are truly a rifle you would be proud to hand down .

The Sako 85 is a good choice, but you would have to double your budget.

I love the 7mm-08. I have that cartridge in a Browning Micro Medallion, BLR, X-bolt and a Sako A7. My other hunting rifles have been on holidays for a number of years now!

I just picked up a Sako 85 finnlight in 7-08. I've had a couple 7-08s before and sold them. Always wanted another in this gun so I went for it. I'm planning on loading either the 120gr ttsx or the 140gr accubond. Anyone who says that the 7-08 doesn't carry enough velocity out to 350-400yds doesn't know what they're talking about or seriously under loading the caliber. Even the 140gr tsx loaded at 2750fps will be at about 2000fps at 350 yds. If you got that cash buy the best gun you can. It's an awesome little round, you'll love it.

Hi All

I'm wanting to know from you that shoot a 7mm 08 what you think of the calibre . I LIKE IT !

#1 What's the recoil compared to a 30.06. ? LESS !

#2 I know it's very suitable for deer, would you use it to hunt moose ? YES !

# 3 If you bought a new rifle in 7mm 08 what rifle would you buy ? TIKKA T3 SS LITE

# 4 What factory loads would you use ? BARNES
Thanks I appreciate it !

Barrel length

Hi Fellas

So now I have another question for you all. What length barrel should I go with in the 7mm 08 ?

I will be using factory ammo for the time being.

Please keep suggestions coming for Manufacturers in this calibre
Pictures of your setup would be great !

Thanks !
