8.5" Grizzly's pre-order!

here it is! you have been waiting for someone to say it, wait no more. WHY THE HELL DO PEOPLE THAT SEE NO PURPOSE FOR "FUN GUNS" FEEL THE NEED TO GO TO A THREAD FOR "FUN GUNS" AND BASH THEM?????? do you ever see people in a thread for geese guns, asking why they would want that for shooting milk jugs? NO! i guess that is because that the "fun gun" people have the COMMON SENSE, to know that it not going to be used for shooting milk jugs, it is going to be used for hunting geese, and designed for that purpose. why the hell people would want to spend their time posting such "witty" comments in an area, that they claim they CANT UNDERSTAND, is beyond me.
nuff said!

Thanks! I believe you speak for most of us reading this thread.

Think I'll wait for the mag fed. $100 more for 4" less barrel. hmmm

:D

From a practical use perspective I think the short barrel paradigm/fad has reached the point of diminishing returns with the 12.5 " barrel Dominion Arms Grizzly which is my favorite brush hunting shotgun for "shotgun-only" designated areas.

Even considering that shotgun powders are very fast burning I'll bet that rifled slug velocity (& accuracy) is dramatically less with the 8.5 " barrel gun than with the 12.5 " barrel unit & that the muzzle blast will be hard on the ear drums, eyebrows & moustaches of careless shooters.;)

And besides $399 is pushing the cheap novelty gun envelope.........$399 is definitely NOT cheap for a 870 clone.

If Canada Ammo drops the unit price $150 then I'll think about it.:)

I'm sure that the eyes of our main antagonist at the RCMP/CFC labs will be rolling in his head like cherries in a slot machine when he sees the latest Grizzly.:runaway:

I wonder how many guys are gonna take a shotgun to the teeth after they replace the stock with a pistol grip and try firing a 3" magnum slug.

Not sure, I played around with two slugs with my outlaw it was a little funky I must say.
Can't wait to get the mag fed 8.5 though :)

I've fired the Outlaw and my 870 Super Mag, both one handed. Both were heavy and awkward, but I never felt I was a danger to myself or others. Of course, I'm not retarded, so I didn't jam my face behind the reciever, I held them out and away like a handgun. The recoil mainly made them go up, but again, due to my position, I'm sure anything sensitive or valuable placed right behind the reciever would not have faired well.

Unless you are going to have it in your hands at all times carrying a pump shotgun in the bush with a round in the chamber, hammer cocked isn't advisable. The best method of carrying a bush gun is either with a sling or strapped to a pack, hammer down and chamber empty. For practical purposes the 8" Grizzly is a two-shot gun.

I'd rather have a slightly longer barrel at 12.5 with four shots or even a 14" with a one shot extension and that's before getting into the ballistic compromises of an 8" barrel.

Congratulations on acquiring a Perazzi. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Shotguns being used for hunting in Ontario have to be plugged to hold no more than 3 shots (1 in chamber & 2 in magazine) so as far as hunting goes anything over 3 shots is academic.

:agree:

Besides.....I think the Mounties are chomping at the bit for the Liberals to regain control of the federal government in order to push them to make an OIC creating a new class of prohibited firearm which will contain all shotguns with a barrel length of less than 16" making the short-barreled shotties into safe wallflowers (like my 12(5)'s that I used to be able to take to the bush for plinking & hunting) because they are deemed to be unsuitable for hunting & sporting purposes.

Factually correct but the purpose of a bush gun isn't hunting. Hunting regulations also specify that only certain shot sizes can be carried in a shotgun depending on the hunting season and that guns must be cased after sunset.

What we are talking about here isn't hunting but wilderness protection. Different subject.

Why couldn't you hunt with one of these if they're non-res?

Harb - i'm not sure about the other provinces, but BC requires a barrel length of 12 inches or greater in any hunting firearm. So this little guy would be out for hunting around here at least, it would be a strictly defense gun or fun gun.

As to the loss in speed/rounds... in a defense gun for the woods, i doubt it'd make any difference. Someone did a ballistics test on the 8.5 inch dlask guns and the loss in velocity was minimal, and frankly if you put two slugs into a charging bear and you still haven't stopped it - you probably won't get a third. It DOES limit you to having to wait till the bear is pretty close before opening up, but that's pretty good advice anyway.

There are those who will prefer a 12 inch or longer barrel, there are those who will enjoy the 8 inch. Lets all just be thankful that we still have the choice and can pick what we like! :)

amen.

IMHO the 8.5 or 12 inch gun WITH a full stock is allah's answer to a useable bear defense gun. (with a pistol grip I'd rather have a spear) What ever percieved limitations the short sight radius creates after 10-14 hours of carrying an 18 inch gun in unbroken bush I am sure there are few here who would passs up a 4 hundred dollar 8.5 inch gun!

As one who carried a 18" 12 gauge when guiding for many many miles.. I put in my preorder as soon as I seen them..

I will probably order a 12.5 as well once they are available again.. but until then this will do..

Does any one know can a one shot extension cap be used on the 8.5" model???

This would bring it to 3+1 although I never do the +1 thing.. too many miles.. I can pump quick..LOL...

Over what??........a shotgun with a 9" barrel?? ;)

Any data from a known manufacturer we can refer to more specific than "Someone" ??:)

You need to write a book called "FOXERS FAMOUS FANTASY & FACTUAL QUOTES";) & at least then you'll have a rock solid reference:rolleyes: for some of your more fanciful & "chuckle generating" statements & unnamed quotes on political, ballistic & just about any other topic in the domain of human endeavor.

Quite true.... every law abiding person should be allowed to own any firearm of their choosing regardless of how outlandish it is in the opinion of others...... but there is nothing wrong in discussing the relative merits of various firearms on a firearms discussion board without being pegged as a troll by some of our more volatile & indiscreet members.

Small Arms Review, February 2008, has a very good article on velocity vs. bbl length in shotguns.
In the aforementioned tests, the velocity of a 1 ounce slug was 1,117 feet per second from a 6-7/8" barrel, compared to about 1,560 fps for a full-sized shotgun

CanAm.. can the mag caps that allow one extra to be carried in the mag work on the 8" guns.. and these are the same 870 cloned avtions as the other Dominion Arms shotguns???

Thank You

YUP!........in a perfect & non-firearms phobic world..........and Ontario is neither perfect nor non-firearms phobic.

Good luck explaining that you aren't hunting to the new McGuintyized OPP or MNR if you're caught with a shotgun & slugs in the Ontario bush in July.

Talked my way out of one illegal hunting charge in a lengthy conversation with a MNR Supervisor a couple of years ago & my valid Ontario Prospectors License turned the balance in my favor.

I do all my prospecting now after August 15 (opening day of black bear season) with a black bear license in my pocket as my Ontario CCW Permit;) for my DA Grizzly shotgun & I still get the odd, "Are you sure that thing is legal?", so I also carry the registration certificate for the Grizzly at all times.

Spending ~$40 for a black bear license is a lot better than spending an afternoon at a MNR field office convincing a Supervisor of your legal intentions & talking him into giving you your gun back

Like I said in previous posts the cell phone ratline from the bush to an OPP/MNR office is faster than fiber optics & if you're carrying a visible gun & you're seen by passers-by the chances are 150% that you'll be talking to a LEO or CO before too long about the gun you're carrying.

It appears our fellow countrymen are apathetic as knots in a tree about a lot of important things but they've got ratting down to a science.
