9.3 bullet test started. pics posted in #1

Thanks for all the load work and data on the 9.3 x 62. I suppose if I was considering velocity and trajectory I would load the Swift A-Frame 250 grain bullet. I like the way the bullet expanded without total decimation. It would be nice to see a 270 grain Swift-A-Frame for a tad more punch. The 286 is an option as well.

I'm a little late to the game here, but I have a question for any members testing that 285 grain Hornady bullet. It's coming apart at 2250 fps, but just a thought. Could one water down the loading to duplicate down range speed? If it started at 2250 fps in a 9.3x62 (maybe better suited for the x57?) what might it be at 200 meters? I know you can't know where your animal is going to step out, but I wonder if it holds up way out there? I guess that doesn't fix the problem of it blowing apart though.

i will try to slow down it but as i said before that bullet is only good for practising .... but i will try when all the others will be tested first ... for x57 keep prvi or lapua mega or any older design norma bullets and you will be good.

I have the Privi bullets working well in my 9.3x62 rifle accuracy wise, but have never tested expansion. Well I shot a deer but the bullet didn't stay with the hide obviously.

I'm going to try those Hornady bullets on squirrels and groundhogs next summer....look like a good varmint bullet lol.
The Speer 270gr and PRVI 285gr shoot pretty well in both my guns and I have faith in their performance for economical priced pills.
If I needed some premium bullets I'd probably go Partition or Woodleigh since they are easy to source and do the job.

What did the wound channel look like?

I am guessing it was a pretty quick kill, judging from what those bullets looked like in the water test.

If you're talking to me referencing the Privi bullet, the deer went down like a sack o potatoes falling out the back of a truck. The exit hole wasn't bad IIRC, maybe toilet paper roll size, maybe smaller. Loaded to 2350 fps and a 20 meter shot. What surprised me most was how hard it hit, yet not so much bloodshot shock type damage to the area. I don't understand that. I think it was a center high lung shot.

I haven't been through the thread, how did the Privi bullets stack up??

Likely if Hornady used the same jackets sized down from their .375 their 9.3/286gr bullet wouldn't explode. Will send a note asking them about any new testing on the old batch I sent them....the 270gr Speer was equally bad....Harold

I'm disappointed I didn't get to try the 286gr norma oryx on moose this year. I just wasn't comfortable shooting over 250 yards with it knowing how much it dropped between 100 and 200 yards. Oh well. The 180gr trophy bonded bullets did the job, twice!
