my .30-06 is a U.S. Model of 1917. I use it for target shooting with cast lead bullets.

Sorry lads but it doesn't represent any great heritage for me.
Our lads fought 2 World Wars and a whole lot of little conflicts using the 303 so that defence for it's mightiness goes out the window here.
I don't doubt it is flexible and powerful but I'm not moved.

I think that a lot of you guys are loosing the point. It's not about heritage, it's about a worldwide standard that works. When the 30-06, 8X57, 7X57, 6.5X55, and 303 British where designed, they where designed to be able to stop a charging horse. If they could do that back then with FMJ bullets, they can take any animal in North America now; out of that list, the 30-06 to this day remains the most popular by far. There are tonnes of factory loads, and tonnes of reloading components for it, and all of these are readily available.

I have two .30-06's that I've had for a few years.... a Rem 700 BDL with 22" barrel and a Win Model 70 XTR with 24" barrel.

I recently added a nice BSA sporter, done on an Enfield P17 action.

Would like to add a nice shape M1 Garand to the collection at some point, too.

No .30-06 for me. Never have and probably never will. Ok, I lied I bought a donor .30-06, never shot it and had it rebarreled in .35 Whelen so I did have a .30-06 for like a month.

yes yes and yes, M77 in '06, shoot 165 grain federal, many deer and a few moose. had a paker hale in 06 when i was guiding in the early 80's, greta cartridge, many options

My 30-06 is mine, but i have never fired it and possibly never will ....

When i bought a modern "go to" hunting rifle, i couldnt decide between the 30-06 and the 270, so i got a 280.

I liked my Remington BDL Custom Delux so much in 30-06 that I went out and purchased an M1 Garand just for the fun of it.

Midland 2100 Parker Hale 30-06....Great gun for distance shot. very good pattern at 200 yards. I have a Browning 270 also. Even better than the 30-06

I have a nice Remington 750 Carbine in 30-06 with a Bushnell 3200 3-10 scope. Love it. So far one whitetail doe, one mule buck, five mule doe and a cow moose to its credit.

When my Dad passed away a few years ago, I inherited his Husqvarna feather weight and the wood is exceptional. I don't use it often but I did use it a couple of years ago on a successful Mule Deer draw hunt in AB with my daughter.

Parker Hale 1200 C (1970). Got it from my father when he passed away. Had a Winchester modle 70, (1959) when I started hunting. It now belongs to my brother. Both are still great rifles.

I have a savage in 30.06 with a cheaper scope on it, the scope is really useless and I haven't managed to replace it with something better in 2years so i've only shot maybe 40rounds down the barrel. I dont hunt with scoped rifles usually since most shots are short range and I have better guns for the job. My little bro is getting into guns/hunting and he's said a few times he'd like it. So I may just give it to him and let him upgrade the scope/rings and he'll have a decent starter rifle...

I have a Savage 112BVSS in 25-06 and while I admit, they don't seem to have some of the refinements of finish of a lot of others have, they sure can shoot. I did put decent glass on it.
