I have heard some actually eat cougar, are any of the ones pictured eaten or is it just trophy type hunting?

When I killed my cougar, the meat was donated to a fish&wildlife club to be served at their wild game banquet.

I just donated a cougar to the BCWF for their banquet as well. The meat is quite good, looks like pork :eek:and even tastes like pork.:eek: The hunters have the choice of taking the meat or not. Nothing goes to wast as the excess meat gets used on my wolf bait.:50cal:

Out of interest what does it cost for a Cougar hunt, for people from out of province? Is there a common calibre gun used?

A good description of the meat. A co-worker took a cougar a few years back and donated the meat to the local Fish & Game banquet. It was incredible, mind you, the Chef that does the Lethbridge Banquet could make week-old roadkill taste spectacular.

I've been on 3 hunts (as a non-hunter) and two of the chases darn near killed me. Knee deep snow, mountains and a lot of chasing. Not an easy hunt at all. You definitely learn the importance of layering!

All the years on this planet and I confess to never seeing one of those in the wild.
I used to tell my two kid's when we were out camping to hush on the yelling and
screaming. Don't wish to attract any of those unwanted clawed cats or coyotes.
One hears enough of those creatures maming little 'uns. I pack powder when in the
bush with the kid's. Wife thinks I'm crazy but if the chance happens, one shouldn't
be empty handed. I can't see anything but stitches if confronted by one of those. Just
like that elk hunter up in G.P. taking a photo of him and his elk not aware of the cougar
in the photo behind him until he got home and viewed the shots. Now you got me thinking
one should be looking up as well as behind when walking out in the bush.

Apparently the guys that figure this is like a caged hunt have never actually been on anything like that and are sitting in their chairs talking out their asses right now.

I've done the hound game and it's most likely the hardest hunting I've ever done.

Here's some pics from Michigan where I went out with my buddy Jeff, his son and a few more of us just giving the dogs a run for the spring. None of us had a firearm on us and we put a 350# sow up a tree and had to go in and leash all the dogs so she could come down and take off. Ever been 5' from a tired black bear and stare into her eyes knowing she could take one swat and cut you open in a heartbeat? It's a friggan rush. I couldn't even get a pic of the bear cause the dogs were still trying to get up the tree and I was holding two of them back. The young lad in the pic is Jeffs son, he was 12 when this pics was taken. He called back on the radio and told his dad the bear was coming down the tree, Jeff told him to switch it. By the time I got there I found a 12 year old boy swatting a black bear in the ass with a stick so it wouldn't come down and the dogs wouldn't stretch it. Little bugger has more balls than me! The dog in the photo with him is Rambo, he raised that dog from a pup, got killed two years ago hunting cougar in Montanna.

I think that these hounds are the most fortunate comparing to all those begals living in the city and never get to do what they were breed to do. I can't believe how big those are.

Good stuff! Question: Have they ever escaped (via a sudden & giant leap of faith or something) when you got them surrounded like that?

The reason I ask is that I had a stray cat cornered in the barn last year & just when I though I had him ..... it turned on a dime leaped straight through a broken window on to a pine branch, made another leap to another tree ,,,,,, and that's the last I ever saw of it. Gone. Pulled a frickin houdini right before my eyes.:eek:

You hit the nail on the head. man when the truck starts up or the quad or snowmachine starts the kennel blows up with all kind of barking and tail wagging. The dogs fully expect to go hunting and love every minute of it.

I’ve been hiking (and camping) in the past and heard very disturbing (to say the least) noises which sounded like a baby crying wining or something like that, which I ruled out as being a cougar. Lots of them around here.

Congratulations, very cool pics of some BIG CATS!! That looks like a blast! I cant believe the dogs climbing the tree after them???:eek:
