A proper headshot

Thanks bud!!!

The animal has to be shot...and killed if your gonna eat it, no way around that. :)

A heart and lung shot is not a majestic shot, all the damage is done inside the animal so you do not see most of it is which works out for all the squeamish little girls out there. They do not lay down, nod proudly at you and die from it...

This animal did NOT suffer, meat was NOT wasn't. The shot may be a hard one for you...but not all. it was a faster death and much less pain and suffering then a heart/lung shot would have caused. That, by definition is what I called respect. If you cannot pull off a head shot, don't but not do cry when others can, and do.

---

This shot was so "effective" all be it graphic due to the type of .243Win bullet that it was shot at...the head, which is on top of that a very small target which means it will be a more dramatic effect. If he used an FMJ it wouldn't have been as explosive but possibly wouldn't have been as effect if his shot was off...but hey if looking pretty is all that matters, break the law and use FMJs!!!

Tere is no such thing as overkill. Dead is dead.
You stated in your first/original post that most North Americans are against this, so why post it? I know, to stir the chit pot among hunters. I really don't think that your a down to earth hunter anyway and really don't give a damn or respect wildlife. Hunter Education, hunting magazines, hunting videos, hunting shows on TV don't show these kind of things. Be an embassador to the sport of hunting instead of toting a black gun, think that it's cool what a bullet does to the head of an animal.
Show some class and respect to the animals and society...................

Not takin sides here but, i know from experience that calling folks idiots on CGN will get ya an infraction.

So if we accept the premise that a head shot is ethical, perhaps more ethical than a body shot because death is instantaneous, what if we exchange the doe for a B&C class whitetail or mule deer buck? Do you take the more ethical brain shot knowing that it will destroy your trophy, or do you take the less ethical heart/lung, preserving the trophy but prolonging the animals death and possible suffering?

So black guns are bad...? Do you also drive and use a 50's era car cause it still "works"? Did you still wash your laundry by hand in the lake? Cook all your food outdoors over an open fire? Time are changing and advancing...why can't our guns and our hunting tools do the same? My "modern" guns shoot more accurately then older ones (doing a pure mechanical accuracy test to proves so) as well as lighter weight and more durable. Whats the issue bud?

I was curious what people thought of the video...YOU WERE WARNED MORE THEN ONCE AND DID NOT HAVE TO WATCH!!! I am not for or against head shots. If its possible and you want to do it, do it. If you don't...then don't!!! Simple!!! A dead animal is a dead animal...how is a PROPER head shot disrespectful? I do not eat the head nor trophy hunt so I do not need/keep the head anyways. If you miss...is it worse then a missed heart/lung shoot? Both are bad and require tracking of the animal to finish it off.

Hunting...things die, there is blood and guts. No way around it...do not like it? Buy your steroid infused meat at the super market like everyone else then and go back to pretending nothing has died so you can eat.

Now I am an idiot? Thanks!!!

Stay classy and try not to fall off your high horse!!!

Love,

Ahh the ethics of people who soley trophy hunting...putting the animal in more undue stress and pain so you can hang something on your wall to impress your friends and feel special :). LOVEEE those guys!!!

Fellas, first off I know the people in the documentary, I did my deer stalking level 2 on the estate in the show and I culled deer for 4 years there. What alot of you are missing is that 95% of the deer culled in the UK go into the human food chain, mainly they go to Europe but some stay in the UK.What you are watching is a highly controlled culling operation with rifles that are zeroed dead on for 75 yards and off solid rests with moderators, EVERY animal is shot under strict guidelines and processed in a particular way, nothing is left to chance.

Edited to add that this is NOT hunting under any circumstances and should not be associated with it or compared to such.

I myself shot 27 deer in 1 day doing this and I can assure you it is nothing more than a job.

You are ignorant of moral values...................which is quite typical of recent generations. Sad that people in society such as yourself et al have this attitude. I hope that you don't mentor young people in the hunting world.

The video shows how effective and how the round works/causes damage. You were warned more then once and DID NOT HAVE TO WATCH IT!!! You all knew it was a headshot...

So killing...from a distance is different then close up? Its better to prolong the death as long as you cannot see it? If your gonna kill something, KILL IT...it doesn't have to be pretty or majestic...being fast and efficient at it trumps all.
"dosen't have to be pretty or majectic", which was your above quote. As I suspected, you lack class and respect. Your definitely not the poster boy for hunting.

That's an interesting thought. I think what I said was that there was nothing wrong with the headshot if one were able to do it. I don't think I said it was the better shot.

The most ethical shot would be the one that either killed the animal outright or at least anchored it there for you to come finish it off.

Either way, when we hunt we take the animals life. Whether it be for that amazing trophy, which I believe you have every right to take, or the venison that I go for.

I suppose the best shot is the one that you can confidently take...vs the one you have to take for your own reasons.

What I don't understand is...what the hullabaloo is all about?? I thought I had stumbled into CGN Offtopics, but I checked again and, nope, I was right, this was hunting!

Sure thing...an "adult" calling a younger person (I am 22 if your curious) names because I do/agree with something different then you. Your making yourself look foolish enough the people have PMed me to say sorry for being called an idiot for my views from a "fellow hunter". Tell me about this respect thing again? :) Taking a head shot is not illegal...and it works GREAT if done in a controlled environment like it was in this video and no meat is wasted.

And just a heads up (see what I did there?!)...I have never taken a head shot at any big game so even in your book with your own "special" values and believes that you wrongly call "class" I have done nothing wrong but thanks for assuming. I am not trying to be a poster boy for hunting or get on the cover of Field and Stream magazine. I do not poach, lamp or road hunt...do not litter in the woods and I educate people on the pros of game meat and the joys of being out in the woods. I pose no negative impact on our hunting "image".

Still have not yet answered the black gun thing...

What you are saying to me...is EXACTLY the same stuff anti hunters use...you and I both shoot things for meat, both the same end game. You just disagree with a method of shooting I APPROVE of but have not done. Just like how an anti can eat slaughter farm beef but is against shooting it yourself. Your logic...fails!!!

Killing is killing, granted head shots are harder to pull off...if you know you can go for it and make then do it, if not then don't. No disrespect there, and because its more graphic doesn't mean anything to anyone other then it looks "gross". You know what else is gross? Gut piles and their smell, cutting the ####### out of the animal...cutting the head off, the sound of ripping the hide off, ect.

Get over yourself.

Tell me about this respect thing again? :)

There is no proven link to CWD being passed on to humans causing health ailments or concerns.

This is what I would be concerned about too, it doesn't exactly meet any guideline for dealing with possible transmissible spongiform encephalopathies like CWD or "Mad Cow Disease". You certainly don't want the brain matter being spread everywhere which would increase the possibility of transmission.

Dead is dead one way or another. The quicker the better for the animal. I think that some folks just don't like the gruesome results from a headshot. Personally I'd probably never take one, although I have no doubt I'd be able to if I wanted. To each his own without the name calling.

Listen to UKdave and listen to the guy in the footage. Deer headshots need to be both accurate and precise because the brain is quite small.

Probably hurt me more than it did the deer. Kinda gross and better off unseen . . . though the puppet was funny, made me laugh . . . dunno why?
