ACR Media and Info Thread

You have a WE MSK handguard on one of them? I can barely tell the two apart....actually, I don't know which is which, haha!

OK, this is a dumb question, the lower receiver is generally the "firearm" according to our laws......but the serial number is stamped in the uppers on our ACRs......?

Clarification: this pic does not have the MSK on it :)

I need to get a new picture done!

I've never heard anything about a 308 version. You would need a new upper and lower for that. Basically a new everything.
5.56, 6.8SPC, 300BLK, and 7.62x39 are the only conversions I've ever heard of as factory options. None of those ever made it to Canada though and other than prototypes I don't think any AK magazine lowers were ever produced.

There is a video somewhere on youtube where they had a AK magazine compatible lower but that was back when it was the Magpul Masada. Since Bushmaster/Remington took it over I haven't heard anything further.

edit: found it

Cool vid.

Two big improvements that can be made are the enlarged bolt release and the 45* safety.

HUGE improvements for less than $20 each.

Lol, I kind of thought so, but then I figured maybe WE made the plastic handguard as well.

Back to your earlier post, less than $20 each you say, this interests me. I'm guessing not available in Canada though?

Guys, I said I believe that was the intent, just never came to fruitation. I seen the AK mag conversion cr5 talks about, and if you look on ACR forums there is a guy designing the Mossoud, a .308 lower for the Massada, however it has been years in design and remains vapour ware.

No doubt converting to .308 would require alot of change up, likely everything except the Chasis, Stock, and Handguard. It would be very expensive.

Pretty much anything to do with the Massada died when bushmaster bought the design and made the acr. Even if the just released the bolts for the caliber conversions bushmaster/remington promised it would make things a lot easier

They might, though since the plastic guards are available, I don't know why anyone would want to buy one :)

Yes, look up konigstigerii on ACR forums. He produces both the extended bolt release and the 45* safety.

I might call him again to get the rear QD adapter that replaces the rear sling mount.

Same with a disassembled Tavor chasis. It is litterally a milled aluminum insert. That is all.

So, barring ITARDS, that billet aluminum lower that they're chatting about - not considered a firearm and assuming it gets into Canada, is perfectly legal to swap out? So weird!

I wonder if IRG can bring in ACR parts from the forum? Haha, I've seen complete barrel assemblies go for $350 USD!

Same legality as swapping the upper on an AR.

Man, I am mind blown over this. And it does make sense considering they've only stamped serial numbers on the uppers. I guess I've been so brainwashed over the legality of ARs over the years, it's hard to get my head around it.

The NR status is another thing that blows my mind, though I am definitely not complaining.

I've done it numerous times. If you're putting the gas block on a new barrel you need to either cross drill and file the holes for the taper pins to fit or drill and tap the gas block. I chose the drill and file method for both of my barrels.

If the barrel is already cross drilled then yes it's as simple as drifting out the pins and slipping the gas block off the old and onto the new. Takes about 5 min.

Yup the barrel will be set up already, thanks for the info!!

Just need Arms East to post a price.

I'm thinking about going this route as well, just waiting on Arms East to post their barrels again. I checked out Dlask, $550 plus tax for the barrel and the labour. Figured I might try to save a few bucks by getting the Arms East barrel?

are you yourself capable of doing the fitting required or hiring out to a smith anyways?

Don't forget the cost of verifying when you're done.
Dlask has converted 2 for me that turned out well.
If you don't want to wait forever it's probably the way to go.

There's very little fitting to do, the hardest part is lining up the gas block and drilling for the taperpins. It's easy if you have a drillpress and a jewelers file set and take your time.

My verifier charged me $60, it's a single page form they need to fill out. Took a few weeks and it was done. Problem with doing it yourself is the CFO doesn't call you when it's done, you need to call them every few days till they can't find it in the system anymore.

Would I still need to drill for taper pins on the Arms East barrels or would that be done already? These barrels are being advertised as being specifically manufactured for ACRs

Also I do know a verifier so he will approve it as soon as the barrel is installed.

You will need to ask Arms East, but I thought that someone mentioned they would be drilled already. They've since pulled the barrels from their 'site, as you know.

If you know a verifier you're one step closer. The CFO is slow to do it but you can still use it following the restricted rules until it's off the registry.
