ACR Media and Info Thread

I'm interested in converting my ACR to blackout as well. Who made your 18.5 inch?
I currently have the 18.5 inch Questar in223 wilde on mine.

I was just watching a YouTube video about the new DMR acr and the bushmaster rep at shot show said it comes with both hand guards. Does the regular acr come with both hand guards?

Nope. Comes with the advanced or basic handguard, based on what model you buy. The basic handguard is far superior.

No one is making a 300 blackout barrel for them yet other than 1911A1user, his is a custom made barrel and he is still doing testing to figure out gas port size to make it reliable.
Right now your only option is to build your own.

we should talk Dlask into making a 300blk :)

Anyone can make a barrel chambered in 300BLK that will fit the ACR but they would need to be willing to do all the R&D it needs to figure out the right gas port position and dimensions. This is where someone not only familiar with the platform but also someone familiar with the cartridge needs to be involved.
I just put together some 208gr subsonics and will be sending them to someone that is working on a 300BLK barrel for the ACR. I found that with my rifle the Factory 208gr Hornady loads won't cycle but if I build handloads using Accurate 1680 and the Hornady 208gr BTHP they cycle perfectly. So I'm heading to the post office in about an hour to mail them to him. Hopefully they help and we will have a functional 300BLK conversion to drool over.

As promised. Nothing spectacular but a couple loads show some promise.

Factory loads.

The bottom right target of the 75gr Black hills was actually over 4 inches across, I found the fifth round in the target to the right that is not in view. I've had that stuff sitting around for close to 10 years and that was the last of it so I guess it doesn't matter much.

I'm interested to see if I can tighten up the groups with this ammo if I take my time and try a little harder. The 3 shot cluster has me thinking there is more potential than my shooting shows.
This PMC M855 also punched through 1/4 inch mild steel plate at 100yds for anyone interested. It made me giggle ;)
Also of interest, one of the guys out there that day had an AR500 gong and nothing any of us had could make a mark on it other than to knock off the paint.

And now for some handloads.
Nothing spectacular but I have lots more to test using different bullets and powders. I'll find something good :)
Federal brass, Varget powder, Hornady 68gr BTHP, CCI 400 small rifle primers, COL is whatever my Hornady manual said it should be.

One inch squares, 5 shot groups shot at 100yds from the bench and bags.

Shot spacing was as soon as I had a steady hold on the target again, some groups followed the last as soon as I had put 5 more in the mag and got settled behind the rifle. Barrel was pretty warm for a few of them. Not an excuse for some of the groups, that's just how I test my semi auto's, they shoot cold and warm and I just record what they do.

I have measurements for these in my logbook but didn't write them on the targets, I'll try to remember to add the info later.

18.6 inch barrel from Herron arms with 1:8 twist and Wylde chamber for those of you that missed the posts a few pages back.
Glass is Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 3-9x40 with mil-dot reticle mounted in Burris QD PEPR.
I'm thinking of swapping out the Rainier Arms Mini Comp for my Allen Gunworks Linear Comp. It's pretty loud and I plan to hunt with this rifle once I find a load it likes so I don't want it to be ringing everyone's ears when we are out in the field and may or may not have hearing protection in.

Your barrel seems to enjoy 24.3 of Varget with that bullet weight. Very nice group.

Ya, that one wasn't bad. Lots more to test though. I think I have 400 more built with different bullets and powders.
Also have a pile of brass I'm in the process of prepping for more loads. Imr4198 worked really well with my bolt action (check precision section) so I'm going to try to find a load using it.

This is all once fired Federal :D

I'd be content with that load myself, I'm more into run and gun. How do you find the handguard? Is it as sturdy as an AR polymer handguard?

It's pretty solid, I'm not sure how sturdy you need something like that to be. I just shoot, no 3-gun or running around playing GiJoe with mine so it doesn't see a lot of stress. It's floated though so a little flex won't hurt anything anyway.
