ACR Media and Info Thread

Bushmaster has also been telling people that the 6.8 conversion kits were coming out "soon" since late 2011.
I hope this time they deliver on something they say.
I think this rifle will really take off in popularity with a little support from the factory. Modular rifle with multi-cal doesn't mean much if they don't put out any parts.
internet rumours are a little different than face to face at shot IMO

Bah - what no BUIS? And you left the CH on the RH side? What are you some kind of lefty?

Oh you! Giggle giggle.

I did mount a KAC micro rear sight on it but since I had a fixed front post on my AR I had no use for a front sight and thus don't own one. I will be buying a KAC micro front sight post eventually. And yes, I have that deficiency. Much to the annoyance of the guys at the range who took a few shots with it!

By the way, you did an excellent job with the Gunkote. That looks like a factory finish to me, matches perfectly with the FH.

Well truth be told, I didn't remove the FH when I sprayed it... if you ever take it off you'd see the stainless threads. :) Glad you're enjoying it!

See what I mean, you are promode. At any rate, stainless threads add to the rifle's mystique. That FH is fine where it is. I don't remember seeing any flash at all. The 18.5'' barrel helps though.

They were telling people, face to face, at shot show back then that the caliber conversions were right around the corner.
I must only get good info then (or am a very believable liar), shortly after I said it was coming dealers started presales which didn't happen before.

You may be a little gullible but I wouldn't call you a liar ;)
Pre-sales don't mean much until there is an actual product on it's way. All that means is the local retailers have been told the same garbage and they want to get some lists of people willing to pay a premium for the first batch if and when they show up. Also keep in mind Bushmaster is going to fill all US orders first then we will be getting them. There have been other rifles that went on pre-sale in the last few years then we waited and waited long past the original expected delivery date. T97 ring any bells?
It wasn't internet rumors back in 2011 it was direct replies from Bushmaster to emails and phone calls. They still haven't released any caliber conversion kits, not even in the US.

I hope they do finally come through and deliver what they say they are going to but I wouldn't get too excited till there is confirmation there is a shipment inbound.

I still think people are better off buying a used restricted version and converting it. It's easy and I already blew your long transfer time excuse out of the water. My AR took around 2 weeks to transfer to the guy in Nanaimo not the 3 months you were saying.
Unless you want a heavy battle rifle that doesn't shoot any better than the current 16 inch model. Adding 2 inches and leaving the profile heavier isn't going to make it any more accurate. A higher quality blank is needed to increase accuracy.
Personally I prefer a lighter rifle with a match grade barrel. I didn't do anything special that anyone else couldn't have done and I am going to be into my ACR for under $3000 and have 2 non restricted barrel kits and both the folding and fixed stock.
If someone was to find a good deal on the EE in the $1800-$2000 range like you said you have seen and then bought the Dlask barrel for $550 then by the time you take care of de-registering (Dlask will do it for you if you send in your rifle and Calgary Shooting Center is supposedly doing it now with Dlask barrels as well) you would be into it for around $2500 and you would have a Green Mountain 1:7 twist barrel.
So unless you specifically want the heavier rifle then there are other (and cheaper) options out there right now, not maybe this summer if we're lucky.

Because you have had one instance of a quick transfer does not mean it is the norm, restricted transfer times are going to depend on the people involved and the firearm unfortunately, my experience as of late along with other people here in BC I have spoken to has not been good.

Buying a restricted and having it converted still leaves a paper trail which again does matter to some people (tinfoil hat is getting tight). Me buying a restricted and then converting would cost me more than buying a non and then another caliber as I would need to buy two barrels instead of one unless I leave it restricted till a 450 conversion exists for sale, which to me is a waste if it doesn't happen for years to come.

You can beat the dead horse some more if you wish, but for me, buying a restricted to convert does not make sense at the current prices people are asking along with no availability of the caliber conversion I want.

Thread bump

Lets get some more pics in this thread.

I sold my HK so it's time to focus on the ACR with load development :D
I'm heading out to the range this week and will post some pics of 100yd targets. Finally looking like the weather will be cooperating :)
I have 5 or 6 different types of factory ammo and a pile of reloads (I think I have 500 rounds loaded with different bullets and powders) to test so it may take a couple days to get through it all. At least I'll be able to keep my hands warm with the barrel though ;)

Yes. I don't think I will drop 300$ on a Geisselle trigger. This one is plenty light and crisp for my needs.

When you watch it on the youtube page it is right side up and not so shaky.

Pretty much any AR-15 trigger mech will fit - you just need to make a small 'bend' on one of the hammer spring legs to fit properly.

Not sure why the Super ACR trigger is so expensive - especially since I think it's just an SSA (not even an 'E) with a bent spring.

Ack. I haven't seen a decent price because they aren't stocked on Brownells or IRG. It is definitely not worth 300$. I don't know how much that yellow spring set you back, but it is plenty ''carrot-like'' for me. lol

Mine came with the super ACR trigger. It is definitely nicer than my buddy's stock trigger pull but I don't know if it's $300 nicer. I doubt I would have paid for it if the rifle didn't come with it.

What's fireclean? I can't tell a difference between how mine cycles from the video.
