AK magazine for SKS. or mod to accept AR15 mags.

He made it work and i'm impressed by that.

I'm really just cheapskate so when I see the outrageous prices for tactical stuff I go, #### me, I could buy another SKS or ammo and go shoot. Sometimes you can buy both ammo and another SKS for the price of the tactical stuff they've got out there. I was once thinking about replacing the sporter stock on my CSA .223 Vz 58 with an AR stock. I figured, its plastic, It can't cost more than $50. Wrong! $300 for Fad Defense M4 stock for Vz 58! Yea yea, I saw the cheaper ones where you buy that buffer tub separate but the damn tube alone is over $100 then the AR stock is still at least $70 and this isn't including taxes or shipping! For over $200, I'm happy the way the goofy sporter stock is thank you very much.

The SKS, with out a doubt, was used in every conflict the AK-47 was in. People used what was available and the SKS is highly available and is still an effective battle rife as of today. However, I highly doubt any SKS you buy on the Canadian market ever saw that action. I doubt it but you never know, you're refurbished SKS could of been used in a minor conflict that people don't even remember today. When you pick up just about any Enfield, Mosin, Springfield 1903, or even a Brno Vz 24 Mauser, It more than likely was on the battle field whether or not the user was killed instantly and the rifle saw a single shot out of the barrel, if it was reissued several times, used by guard troops that didn't see much action at all, or it was used by the same surviving solder though out WWI or WWII.

The sporterizing, or modifying jobs that I like are ones that try to keep the original look but do things to accurize the rifle such as bedding job, trigger job, ext. Like taking an original looking 1973 Camaro, removing the gutless 170hp 2 bolt main 350 and replacing it with a 4 bolt main 350 bored .030 over with a 400 crank pumping 500+ horses, changing out the turbo 350, although a great automatic transmission, and replacing it with a built M22 Rockcrusher 4 speed, 4.10:1 ring and pinion, and a suspension kit, you've got yourself a monster of a street sleeper that wont piss off the guys that like a bone stock classic car but will spank the guy with the Honda civic with a fart can with fancy stickers, unpainted aftermarket bumper kit, and a ridiculous wing that you would see on an F1 car. I don't even remember what were arguing about now..... Oh yea, to stop those punk kids from skateboarding on the side walk.

9 pages for me. Interesting read for sure...

Can't help but suggest inquiries like these (in this forum) is akin to finding a Yiddish site, and asking about Ham recipes!

I have to eat a touch of crow, as I'm usually the first one to defend a folk-smiths' (Bubba's) right to do what they want with their own stuff. That's usually over in gunsmithing. Everything does have it's place, and this thread would have been better served in Red Rifle, or Gunsmithing forums(Which was actually suggested quite politely very early). The Milsurp forum is full of folks who are dedicated to the preservation of history, not how to mangle it. The fundamental point being the SKS will not be improved upon for these changes (in general) was also made politely, and early. Such mods are certainly not condoned in this particular forum, and actually make many of the readers cringe.

The OP has been a member for a month, and may not appreciate the nuances. The defenders of mallninjaism should know better!

Taking up the tangent/hijack...
I would happily look anyone in the eye, and explain the clunky magazines are not faster for operation. I do acquiesce you could get through 10 rds faster. But bump it up a touch to a couple hundred rounds, that have to be carried a wee distance...the strippers(chargers) are far more efficient, considerably less prone to issue, and certainly faster. (the point made about having spare magazines for Enfields)
...not bragging about being such a frugal fella, but there is a huge gap in cost effectiveness too.

I had a buddy in college who had a Tercel that was jacked up, with huge mags on the rear. The car was front wheel drive! He certainly thought it looked cool (and it kinda did), but there was certainly no improvement on the original car's performance for the changes. Same sort of thing.
