All-New: Type 81M

I guess the main issue (at least in my mind), is TI's claim "There were less then 0.05% (half of a tenth of a percent) rifles affected over the entire SA and SE shipments, yet continues to be a big and ongoing controversy." From what I see, especially from they guys who own many of these is that the number is probably ATLEST 50% if not greater. If the product really has that many issues, its time to get them rectified . I don't care if this is a $1200 rifle or $6000 rifle WE as consumers should not roll over and accept it... but I guess that's the Canadian way, just like the 180 line. Funny enough, the tens of thousands of Norinco firearms that came into Canada did not experience the same issue. There were a few known issues but to the best of my knowledge, they were corrected. It's just sad so many are willing to justify the lack of QC to themselves and accept a substandard product. A lot of folks have lost their backbone in life.

You must work for the CBC.

The issues are blown out of proportion by people who've either not owned an 81 before, or are just whiners

For those who say sigmaco stock adapter won't fit, it's not true. I did have to file down the diameter of the hex bolt as it was tighter then my previous lmg. Also the fixed wood stock is not completely straight giving a bigger illusion of the rifle being bent. I did put my fixed stock in a vise grip and pry it a little. Now with the zukov the rifle looks pretty damn straight.

Always had guns with cp carded for pickup by the retailers shipping option. Only ups has ever showed up with a package for signature.

Every 'card for pickup' means that CP posts "Notice Left" on Tracking and I open the door... and there's no notice. This is the small city CP service I get. Day late and no Notice. Notice will probably be here when the door to door guy comes around at 2pm.

A courier always attempts delivery first, CP gives you the minimum amount of service to not lose their accounts with these vendors.

They do that when the sender requests pickup by recipient, or when the dollar value exceeds a threshold. Of you're lucky, call the post office before end of day and see if the package is ready. Sometimes you don't have to wait until next business day. I did this yesterday :)

Not that I’m an expert in manufacturing but I do a lot of high end finish hardwood etc, and in my experience anyways, if you leave an inexperienced worker with any amount of time you get the same result.

The only example I know of is the Remington/Marlin acquisition. Now I’ve read many different accounts of how it played out and there’s obviously a lot of different explanations, some others even parallel our situation here in terms of cutting corners for profits but one area sort of hits home. From what stories tell, Remington either didn’t want to pay the original Marlin workers and moved production to acquire cheaper/ consequently inexperienced labour or some other more complicated chain of events in that neck of the woods as these things tend to go. Anyways the point is speculate here is if you look at older JM stamped Marlin (mind you some late/newer was getting bad from aging equipment) the actual fit and finish of stocks and fore end stocks, even just the overall assembly and QC of rem rifle, tooling aside, was worse, and I really doubt they were working at Chinese production pace.

So I don’t know that spending more time or throwing more QC at a product like ours in mention really makes any difference. If you leave an inexperienced worker for 1 hour or 10 hours, he can only finish to the standard he knows how to finish to. That said I don’t know if I’d hold China high on a pedestal for having experienced firearms makers, at least not high end finishes, reliability however maybe, which is what we tend to see here from the Type 81.

Good Point.

I don't think the QC issue is due to the manufacture/labor, because in China, all firearm factory is owned by Government and employees are goverment's employees which means their job is very stable and with good benefit.

The average year they have been working for must be comparatively longer than workers in other regular industries.

I think they are the same workers making military orders and obviously military order has higher standards.

I think they provide the quanlity based on customer's request. You pay class 1 price I give you class 1 quanlity. You pay class 3 price I give you class 3 quanlity.

There is nothing related with the factory and labor, because they are able to make military standard rifle.

All of us have one or more SKS/type56. You ever seen a poor QC SKS (bent barrel) like those Type 81s? And those SKS were made in "ancient" time when there were no CNC, no computer, nothing.

The M works with all the normal adapters that fit the fixed stock versions, I'm not sure where that guy heard that, but it's not true.

This is good to know. Somewhere between here and reddit a fixed stock adapter was posted with holes that didn't lign up with a previous stock adapter. Guess I shouldn't believe everything I see on the internet.

How about the handguards? Can anyone confirm if the older 3rd party variants will work? I see TI has the low profile ones that are M compatible on pre-order.

There's been like 3 photos of canted stocks, and 2 of possible non-aligned barrels (all within spec) from thousands of orders, where are you pulling the 50% or greater number from?

My CP noticed (card for pickup) always go to my mailbox. Not placed on door.

Yes, I've actually seen that post too, that adapter uses the holes where the pins go that hold the stock in and those are different on every type81. So it's just the way they designed it they didn't account for that issue. But sigmaco ones and others that don't use the existing stock holes work good on any fixed versions.

They don't bother delivering the Notice Card, which was my point. Says they put one in my box at 9:30, not there.

Same thing every time something is 'carded'. I went on CP chat and they sent me the notice card #, called the particular PO and Parcel isn't there.

A Day late and probably another Day to pick it up. Good ol' CP.

Hey guys new member here. Order #268xx has anybody had any issues with CP showing delayed shipping? It keeps showing item delayed without any further updates for now. Last update just showing in transit. Today is the 5th business day so not too worried but from AB to BC doesn't take this long ever. I did get ship insurance as well just incase.

When the package is processed in the AM they create a pickup slip that is put in with you daily mail. You will get it when the mailman drops your daily. From there you will likely see your package updated as on route to post office.

All firearms I have received from a retailer come this way. ID and signature for pickup at PO.

Gotcha. I noticed in the previous post of the member who had his Zhukov mounted it has the 2 bolts in the adapter. I am use to the existing pin holes being used which is what threw me off.

In between this last post I seen a guy on reddit mounted his SC quad rail on his under folder.

The card will be there tomorrow i all my cases. I just watch the tracking and go to the post office that day. Call before to see if they have it if your concerned. All the stuff i ship out i pick card for pickup/sig/proof age ect. It all works out the same in the end. Not the end of the world.

Crazy how long this thread is though. I guess people dont know what a nornico/poly gun is gonna be like.

Mine shows "In transit" in Calgary, AB since Mar 14 (destination is Ontario).
Where I'm located in ON, normally CP will deliver 2-3 business days after I see "In transit" in Calgary, AB.
Expected delivery was Mar 22.
Order 268xx as well.
