All Sako models

That's road hunting for you

Yeah, but it happens sometimes even if you're not intentionally road hunting. I shot a moose last year 5 min from camp hopping out of an argo on the way to our hunting area. It has happened enough that I've developed a strong preference for detachable mags. I still like my Sako with the floor plate though

ill go back to the original post concept, i have an 85 finlight i love the rifle, finish of the stock could've been a bit better, but lucked out and found 2 mags at a local pawnshop for it that he was dumping for $30 for both

would rather have something a bit more solid these days, my long hikes in are dwindling and am looking at the classic wood stocks, this post has been invaluable for that!!!

that resonates, for me the hawkeye hunter stainless is where my mind goes now for those thoughts on doing that right out of the box, sako would be nice too in walnut stainless and have a more modern luxury touch with the magazine and likely higher grade finish and fit etc, two different levels

What would the ideal one for you be?

A few that I thought stood out in the 85 line.

1. Grey laminate and stainless (grey wolf)
2. Kodiak (same as above with shorter barrel and iron sights)
3. Brown Bear/Grizzly models with big bore cartridge options.

So mostly models with bears in their name haha.

LOL

Given your big bore affinity, how about the Black Bears in 9.3x62 at Prophet River?

A 22" barrel would be nice, that thing can have a surprisingly flat trajectory! But 20" must be handy.

Yups , Finnbear , AV
is it really true , that the Sako is better all round
than the win model 70
I think so

✔️ Thanks BR! Rear sight windage adjustable front sight elevation adjustable. Sure is a nice handling rifle.

I liked the RH rifle I handled, and really wanted one left handed!
Oh, well...perhaps someday I'll run across one (on the bucket list)...but for now, I am really enjoying my LH Hunter in 9.3! It shoots the Nosler 250gr AB ammunition nicely, and the best group has been .442" @ 100 yards. Have some 250 gr Swift A-Frames to work up a load with, as well as the 250 gr Barnes Banded Solid should I ever get to hunt African Dangerous Game with it. It's definitely going with me on my next bison hunt!
While I have it scoped (Kahles Helia 1.5-6x42 w/ #4 reticle) I did get it with open sights so I have that option for back up and if I decide to hunt something with it w/o the scope mounted. (Perhaps a moose this fall)

does anyone with a floor plate Sako wish they had a removeable clip ?

While I really like my Model 85's with their detachable magazines (love the handiness of a quick reload with a spare magazine), I still like my Model AV with its floorplate.
I have never had my floor plate pop open while hunting or on a stalk (or when shooting at game for that matter), it is also nice to know that you won't have an issue because you lost the magazine (although this has never happened to me - knock on wood!). So each has its merits.

I guess that I am used to using rifles with both systems, and am mentally prepared to adjust for either requirement as required for the firearm chosen for any given hunt. I have never felt handicapped by the floor plate. Might have to do with the number of lever actions I own and/or have owned, and have shot/hunted with over the years w/o detachable magazines, and have to cycle every round through the action to unload the tubular magazine.

Sako rifles
do have a written guarantee .. 5 shot moa .. I see tikka is 3 shot

Since both barrels are made in the same factory at the same time, it is hard to say.
But since Sako has the the higher standard, it could be by their firearms command the higher price...but as far as I am concerned, as good as the Tikka's are, they just aren't as nice as the Sako's. Or offer the same features. And in handling them side by side, you can immediately see and feel the difference. So, yes...they are the real deal!
And for the features that they provide, you cannot build a custom rifle with the same quality options for the same price.
