So, I buy a used CZ858 rifle off the EE. Rifle arrives after I pay and it is the dirtiest thing I have ever seen. I clean it up and take it out to the range and put 20 rounds of Chinese surplus through it. No problems. Leave positive feedback for the douchebag who sold me the rifle. Take it out again next week and get 10 rounds through it and get a case head separation failure. Never had one with my SKS rifles, but I figured the odds were just on that day. Get a broken case extractor and remove it after 30 mins of hammering the live round that fed into the empty case that was stuck in the chamber. Go shooting again and have 3 cases split all the way from neck to rim. Figured I had a buggered batch of Norinco surplus so I switch to Czech surplus. Another case head separation, 45 mins to remove as the case separated approx. 1.1cm from neck. Cleaned the f**k out of it and took it out again. Primer blows out of the gun ALONG WITH THE ANVIL and hits me in the eye. Smoke is coming out of the bottom of the magazine and out of the barrel. Good thing I wear glasses. Call Wolverine Supplies, tell him I think the headspace is long and also tell him I have a spare bolt. He says to try the bolt first and if it does not work to send the rifle back. I explain that I bought it used and he says no worries, he will fix it for a very small price. Great guy he is! I dry run my spare bolt assembly. With the bolt closed and a blank round in the chamber the bolt moves nearly 2mm back and forth! I talk to my buddy DaveGP and ask how the barrel is pressed into place. He says it is pressed and pinned. I take off my lower handguard and discover why the rifle is so f**ked:
Yep. You are seeing it correctly. Somebody took out the barrel pin and drilled and tapped the barrel and installed 3 American made YFS machine screws to hold it in place. Unf**king believeable. Other CZ858-2 rifles are pinned properly. Now I have no warranty at all, barrel has most likely been comprimised from the drilling, the headspace is out around 5/1000" and I wasted 650 dollars. So, to the person who bubba's this rifle and then sold it to me stating that it was "in perfect working order" you can go f**k yourself. If I had not been wearing glasses I would have had a primer anvil lodged in my eye.
Now I have to call Wolverine Supplies back and explain what is wrong with the rifle and from the looks of the the machine screws it looks kinda pricey. As you can tell I am pretty pissed off.
