Am I the only one that cringes at the term "shotty"

First off, I'm not a firearm terminology nazi. I don't care of someone calls a magazine a clip, a cartridge a shell, or any of the other interchangeable references out there.
For some reason, though, every time I hear the term "shotty" it takes every ounce of control I have not to turn into "that guy" who sticks their nose into someone else's business. Is there a "shotty anonymous" group out there I should join?

I think my reply in the welcome forum at another site conveys my thoughts on the matter...
Welcome to ###...again.

I just wanted to point out that the term shotty instead of the word shotgun only saves you 1 letter.
Unlike the use of Chevy in place of Chevrolet, shotty is not an abbreviated form of shotgun because they both have 2 syllables.
So while it may save you 1 letter it doesn't save you from sounding like an idiot!

I know my bad, but it was too long to put in my signature line :p
And again, just razzin ya. I know you didn't come up with the term you were just brainwashed into thinking it's cool!

Shotty = 2 syllables
Shotgun = 2 syllables

Why not just call it a shotgun? No extra work involved.

very astute observation! :)

Sounds like something a couple of ###s would sit at the bar and call a drink. Its not a term I ever use.

Shotty is just too call of duty-frat boy for me. Plus people tend to hang the "eee" sound out.

"Dude-Bro! Like, you have a shottyyyy! That's so #epicyoloswag360noscopehashtag"

The time I heard the term, it was uttered by a friend of mine who had never even owned a shotgun. Didn't like it then, don't like it now. I have another friend who likes to call me at 10pm-11pm at night...usually after a bottle of wine..and tell me things like; "did you know that 00 Buck is like...8 or 9, 3/8" lead balls? Holy F**K man!" lol

The world can be a bit of a strange place, so I sure don't lose sleep over this kind of stuff. However, I wouldn't be disappointed if I never read, or heard the word "shotty" again.

I call it a shotty. Meh, I don't lose sleep over it. Just as I don't lose my head if someone calls a mag a clip or ammo a bullet but I'll correct 'em.

Life's too short for me to worry about trivial cr@p like that. If it bugs folks that much, maybe those folks need to visit a shrink to address their anger issues. :stirthepot2:

there are many things you can call your shot gun.
They are................ Big Bertha, Feather duster, Boom stick, boom pole,The Flight Canceller, The Howitzer, Elmer, the finger of Doom, thumper, Phud, the hammer, blunderbuss, Ol' Painless, topper, the Devils walking stick,,black stick of death, and Finally.....a shotty. LOL

Doesn't bother me much. Just makes me think the person using the term is 26 going on 16 because they just bought some 12" clip-fed camo-dipped muzzle-braked gun that they can't hit a pie plate with beyond 20 yards.

Now being referred to, as part of a collective, as a "Gunnie" annoys the crap out of me. Just like I'm not your "Brah" "bro" "Brotha".

It makes me feel like I should be cinching my belt down around my knees with 2 sizes too large cotton boxers hanging out of them, making me as much a tw@t as the person using the term must be.

Handie? Thats just dumb. Its called a "gat", and used for bustin' caps in punk asses. The correct technique is to hold it elevated above your head sideways, while pumping it downward as you shoot. It is important to remember that this technique is primarily used as a "show of force" when you don't actually want to harm your victim as it is almost guaranteed to miss the target.

You also gain some FPS by firing on the forward pump. 2 birds stoned at once.
