An m14 not a norinco m305

It seems very important for some people to justify spending a lot on their rifle, and for others to justify spending very little on theirs. Makes me wonder if they're trying to convince the rest of us, or just themselves. Ah well, whatever floats your boat is all good. Someday maybe I'll run out of other things to spend money on and get an LRB, but for now I'm having tons of fun with my Norcs.

To the OP: One thing to consider, if you buy a used Norc off the EE you're not sending a single dime to the PRC...and if the barrel was going to fly off, it probably would have already ;)

All good and fair points. There's an inferiority complex, where the lowliest goods are equal to or better than the top quality, and it's stupid for people to have spent on the top end. Then there's the superiority complex, of where nothing but the best is worth owing, of which I'm guilty in moderation, but it's a lot easier to take this view if you can afford it. Neither is right.

Fair enough on used and supporting the PRC.

I view these with suspicion, you've shot over $5,000 in ammunition through your $400 rifle? The barrels aren't even good for 6,000 rounds. Noted if I ever see it on the EE, warn buyers.

I've owned quite a few Norcs in the past and built on them a lot, and I had more problems with them than any other make of firearm.

Doesn't seem all that far-fetched to me. I've put about 2700 rounds through my Norcs in the past 14 months, mostly surplus.

Bro seriously bro the barrels are good for 6k rounds, there's a few guys locally here that showed me their Norcs with 8k+ rounds and the bores were crispy

the ammo has verried, from surpluss, comericail hunting, and custom loads (150gr to 190gr: hot, cold and everything in between) in high end brass and lowly surpluss cases. its something with those fing norinco extractors they seem to fail to fling brass out sometimes

As for barrels burnt after 6000 rounds..... it depends on care, ammo shot, how hot the load was, if you just keep blasting on a hot barrel. I have had 3000 rounds through a tikka and it still had not opened up, most service barrels are good for over 15K rounds and are not expected to open up the groups till 7k or better... and thats with automatic firing!

So to condense and try to bring a consensus to all the previous discussion on $$$ spent -versus -end results,..... would it be fair to now introduce a Tier system into the Battle Rifle forum for the M-14 Battle Rifle?

USGI Tier 0

LRB Tier 1 :D

M1A Tier 2

Norinco/USGI Tier 3 :yingyang:

Norinco( stock, egg roll box) Tier 4:redface:

I always liked how well it worked on the Black Rifle board.f:P:

Dont agree with the entire I dont buy anything Chinese but when it comes to firearms im behind the OP.

Picked up a Springfield M1A national match and would never trade it for 5 Chinese rifles. Rather buy quality than quantity.

that would be true if the op were considering trading a one for the other, which is not the case. If you had the best why trade for anything else? The question now however isn't to give up one for the other. This is a fresh buy and from that perspective i think the norincos have better value in them. Of course by all means if they op can afford the cost of a premium rifle i'd recommend that. the main thing for most nork owners from what i can tell though is bang for the buck. That is are the benefits proportional to the additional cost? according to those who like to build and perfect their rifles the answer is no. if you want the best performance out of the box, yes.

My 2c I rather have a norc with all usgi parts and a good barrel than a new production Springfield ... If all that is left is the norc reciver I would say it is better than a SA I know it would be dumb to pay for the parts to build one but if someone said here pick one out of the two I would go for the usgi parts on the forged reciver without question but if I had to pay I would pony up for a LRB M25 for what a 1000$ more than a rack grade SA ?

Would it be worthwhile to throw the Armtac USGI/TRW parts kit (or some other way of getting real m14 parts in Canada) on an m305? Would that resolve most of the quality issues or would I just be in for a bunch of almost-milspec headaches?

I was thinking I'd do that and then save up for an M25/bolt/barrel while I learn on the Norc. Then afterward I can move the USGI parts to the M25 then put the Norc back together and maybe do something different with it.

Then I'd have two m14s :)

If you spend a fraction of that money going to one of Hungry's M14 clinics instead you'll be waaaaay further ahead. EDIT: regardless of what brand of M14 you bring along ;)

LOL. Well, as an Albertan that has been putting up with the stink of Quebec for decades...I will not buy anything made in Quebec either if I can avoid it. They are both scum sucking commie ******** in my scholarly opinion...and the Chicoms are more price competitive.

Well, after 19 years of living in this Commie packed piece of real state, I could not agree with you more. LOL...!!!

I'm probably the only guy happy Springfield's receivers create work in Canada, it's like a bunch of cliquey schoolgirls here. I've known some excellent Québécois, there's loonies here in BC too. Plenty. Same for Alberta, we own a couple properties there and have some interesting "progressive" neighbours. Springfield receivers cast in Canada? Cool.

The differance between a norc and a LRB is night and day.
The lrb is smooth and well fit, the norc even after you trick it out (which costs more then the lrb to fully do) its still a rough action in comparison.

I've shot one custom LRB build and it was very nice, but the Norc and Poly Tech M14s that SEI tricked out for me run smoother than any other build that I've shot or handled. The worst by far was the Springfield Scout that I started with, the best parts of that M1A were the receiver and the barrel.

jog on.

The guy doesnt seem to know a heck of a lot about the M14 type rifles, Stevo is giving him a perspective on his purchase that he may not be aware of.

and as for taking it personally? Well, no one asked for your life story, but thats exactly what we got.

Jog on? Please elaborate I don't speak Kiwi. I'd say most of the people on this site don't know much about M14 rifles. Price is only one issue.

I do not have the experience that you do, however after getting my M305/M14s greased up it is an extremely smooth action. I don't think any of my other auto-loaders are as smooth.

hence... screw Springfield and a buy a hammer forged made in america assembled by profetionals with love better then original: LRB

I completely agree with you, in fact more than 200%. So, whenever you'd like, just feel free to mail me the cash necessary to buy such a wonderful LRB work of art. I am truly confident I will love it. In the meantime, my cash can only afford the commie stuff right now, two of which didn't cost me even 1/3 of what an LRB goes for here in Canada. Yes, they don't compare, but I can still enjoy shooting them instead of just drooling over the better made ones that I cannot afford, all while missing all the trigger time I'm getting right now. Besides, my rough Norcos aint doing so bad. If I can ever get the darn Photobucket to upload my pics again, I'll post a target to show you what I mean. :)
