Ok so I finally got her out to the range to pop the cherry.I loaded up 50 rounds with the 115s ranging from 36.5 - 39 gr of reloader 17.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a barrel with zero rounds through it.I'm shooting at a 4ft long sheet of white paper with black 1" target pasters.
I'm aimming at the center one and the first shot goes to the bottom right side of the paper.Almost off actually but its there so I fire another which lands 8 inches up from the first.
Same point of aim.Next round lands another 8 up and the fourth yet another 8 or so up.The fifth is now at the top of the paper with no change of aim point.Sixth shot I change the point of aim to the bottom of the paper and that round impacts dead center of the sheet.
The next 4 rounds pile in right beside it and form a nice little group.I forgot to mention while the first 5 shots were climbing up the paper they were also moving from right to left about 10 inches.
This barrel was brand new with no rounds through it so I thought folks might find it interesting. It shot a couple of groups right around 1 inch at 200m so I was happy since there qa basically no load development.
Now to get her tuned up!

The guys down south are getting the best velocities out of a .243 with a 115 using around 47-47.5 gr. of RL-25. In my 6mm Crusader, it also beats RL-17. Retumbo does the same, but the load is compressed. An 8" drop tube takes care of that though. It's a far more temperature stable powder though. It would be interesting to see Retumbo in this cartrige with the 115.

Well the brass I bought in England while shooting in Bisley.Dies I got from superior shooting systems.
Ill do more testing with powders for sure. Not nessisarily looking for the highest velocity but the most accurate load.

The first 50 rounds were at 200m only because I had no zero at all and no ideas about the load.
Once I get things a little more sorted ill take her out to the spot in the picture which has 850m.
No point yet until I have a decent load.

Really Nice rifle! Please tell us, where did you get brass & dies for the 6XC?

Cheers......

You just run a 22-250 case threw a 6xc full size die, than fire it so the rest of the body puffs out.
Perfect 6xc case. Only says 22-250 lapua not Tubb or Norma.
......... You can buy them from tubb's store.

How come you chose R-17 over H3850?

As far as powders go I had RL17 on hand and its gotten a few decent write ups so I have it a shot. The thing has only had 50 rds through it so I won't be fast to judge.
Got lots of options.I know 4350 is the go to powder but I'm going to explore a bit.Part of the fun really!

Rite on. That's a good reason.

Are you using a centricity gauge when you finish a bullet ?

I will be when I've found my load and am loading for a match or something.
The Norma cases I use for my .308 consistently give me 0-2thou runout so I'm hoping for the same from the xc cases.

And I'll be testing it here! ;)

Jealous!
Nice Rifle.
Awesome range!!

115's H4350 max's out on mine at 39.5g (3035 fps - 30" Kreiger barrel) but this is hot and leave ejector marks on the brass. 38.8g is about as hot as you want. With H4831SC, my load was 41 to 41.5g (3170 fps). H4350 is great for lighter bullets like 105's were H4831SC or RL17 is great on heavies.

Dont try an over pressure your loads and things shoot really well.

Problem with a number of match shooters is they want unobtanium speeds so stress all their components and that leads to lousy LR groups.

Prove to yourself, that the bullet, any bullet is capable of shooting accurately at moderate speeds and pressure (sub 60,000psi) THEN start to ramp it up.

Odds are the higher node will be tempremental and you may even see flyers. The bullet is simply being stressed too much. Using the SLOWEST powder that will fit seems to help ease these VLDs down the barrel.

They have light jackets and you are spinning them hard. Giving them a swift kick just gets them cranky.

The speeds that Kodiak is listing is nothing to sneeze at. Anything over 3000fps is awesome.

I always try and find the slowest powder that will be slightly compressed at the highest workable pressure and speed for that bullet. When that happends, I almost always get better then average speed, little vertical, great accuracy, and consistent performance

And if the final speed doesn't meet my goals - I use a LARGER case.

Went and found a pound of 4831sc to try. Should be interesting. I also found some Berger 115 vlds.
What are you guys finding works for seating depth for both the Dtacs and the vlds? I'm starting the Dtacs at 5 thou off. Bergers I have no idea.
