Armalite AR180B Frequently Asked Questions, revised Dec. 26/07

not a biggie, but it does not say a whole lot about importation procedures.. Will call them tomorrow to confirm.

BTW Wolverine offers a rail from Elite Machining for $175.

Tnx anyway - excellent FAQ.

Armedsask, do you think there is a reason to pay that much more for the rail from Elite Machining? It is just surprises me that the difference in price is more then two times..

I'm not familiar with the one from Elite. If the Stormwerkz is cheaper then awesome because it definitely isn't cheaper in construction or function.

I challenge you to find any single person not satisfied with their Stormwerkz rail, or any product for that matter.

Q: How do I remove the barrel?
A: You will need a barrel extension wrench. You can make your own from an old/broken AR15 bolt or you can buy one here (it will have to be modified): http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/sto...spx?p=12729&s=
To remove the barrel on an AR-180B: strip everything off the upper including the front sight base, make a reference mark on the barrel and the upper receiver for realignment on reinstall, clamp the barrel in a good vise with barrel blocks, then with either a purchased or home made barrel extension wrench turn the receiver/barrel extension off the barrel. Counter clock wise, they are standard right hand threads. DO NOT try to turn the receiver by itself, you will just spin the barrel extension out of alignment with the receiver. Remember, you are turning receiver off the barrel, not the barrel off the receiver.

This is good to know... so, an AR-15 barrel will fit (excluding gas port location)? I would love it if someone could do some more reasearch in this area. It'd be nice if we could easily throw on 20" AR15 barrels for future. I love my AR180B and would like to know I can just swap barrels down the road.

I just wonder if anyone on Arf has done this, worth checking out for sure. Does anyone make an 18 1/2" A4 1:9? I can see the possibilities. Like G37, I love my 180B. But if it's an easy swap to a different barrel length, it can go from CQB to gopher smoker in no time.

To my knowledge, no one has done a barrel swap. I've heard of a few guys getting custom made and mounted barrels, but none with a stock AR15 barrel.

accuracy problems

I've been having accuracy problems with my 180b (shooting about 8" group @ 100 yds). Have since tapped and added screws to scope mount after noticing a tiny bit of play. That helped somewhat, but its still not up to par. Looking down the barrel tonite I noticed the rifling looks "soft" compared to other rifles (30-30 and cz), just not sure if thats normal. I bought the rifle used so dont really know how much it was used before - think its due for a barrel replacement? I'm shooting UMC ammo - am planning to try a different brand tomorrow to see if that makes any difference

thanks,

You are a terrible shot. Admit it. A poor craftsman always blames his tools.

*Useful answer will be given when I'm sober.*

Admittedly, I'm not the best shot. However for a bench-rested rifle @ 100 yds to consistently shoot all over the paper seems to suggest something further than my own inadequacy as a rifleman. Should the rifling on these barrels be relatively sharp and pronounced as on other rifles, or are soft, shallow grooves normal?

thanks,
Jon

I'm doing an upgrade for my ar180b-2, I already ordered the mi forearm
and storm adaptor my question is there any retailer/dealer in canada that sell
the ace skeleton buttstock? I already browse lots of u.s. online stores but nobody likes to ship outside the states.thank you for any info.

Hey Armedsask,
just checking out your ar 180 on a different web site, and really liked your gun! can you get your forend somewhere? and it appears to have a new muzzlebreak? is it difficult to take the iron sights off after getting a eotech?(ill probably get a replica off ebay due to $$)

Ive ordered the rifle off wolverine and am expecting from feb or march,

and is there something wrong with the stormwerkz adapter not fitting properly? i was planning on getting a T6 butt stock. thanks
Bill

Uh, what? Where did you get that idea from? All of the products offered by Stormwerkz are perfect.

Don't bother with the forearm I have, Wolverine carries a drop in railed forearm for the 180B. Of course you'd see that if you read the FAQ.
