ATRS Modern hunter specs, pics and range reports

8x32 screws are not overly strong in shear and you would have to have shaped washers and beveled nuts for inside radius of
Hand guard- that riv-nut is aviation quality part and rivets are av pieces as well!

I agree with that, I was more thinking standard pop rivets.
The 8x32 machine screws DO work well for those who do not have easy access to the aviation type rivets.
The work CLG did on his is fabulous!

Can someone let me know the overall length of a MH with ctr stock all the way in and 18.6 barrel please. .. trying to figure out a case to buy.
Thanks!

I measured mine and got a little under 37 inches but I have the ATRS muzzle brake and added the limb saver designed for the CTR so might be a little longer than your standard but not much. Hope that helps.

If anyone is near a local Kenworth or especially a Peterbilt truck dealership they stock many sizes of aircraft grade rivets and huck screws as cabs are constructed the same as aircraft fuselage.----Dieseldog!

These rivets are just your typical 2### series aluminium, your standard 8-32 UNF stainless hardware is going to have a higher shear strength than the rivets I used. These rivets are worth less than a penny a piece, don't be so easily swayed by the stamp aviation or aerospace grade. The anchor nut is the true space age technology at a whopping 37/cents.

Would the above part work? Looks like if I drilled a hole large enough for the female threaded portion to allow th curved plate to rest on the inside of the hand guard. Then when I tighten the stud it will basically form a sandwich in between. This is a way to install a Harris bipod?

This will definitely work, so will a simple thread piece of flat bar radius'd. The only problem I see is that the stud portion on the nut is likely taller than the thickness of the handguard, requiring some sanding to actually be able to sandwich the material of the handguard. Keep in mind you have to index the stud properly to get the opening 90deg to the center line of the handguard. I got lucky, I imagine some creative washer work may be necessary for some.

An important step is to find the center line, find where you want to mount the stud and to then spot face that exact location so you have a flat surface to mount to. My reticle is so far 100% true on a non-swivel bipod, I can't confidently say you'll have the same experience if you mount to a radius.

Wow, well explained clg!

OMG its election day and I almost don't care! thank god I voted already because the phone call I got while I was out ticking the conservative box may have made me forget to do it altogether!( just kidding) My Modern Hunter is on the way! Yay!

Been sitting on mine for two weeks with out any magazines. Need alberta tactical to get on making us some mags!!!

Sorry but we are too busy sitting on our thumbs:rolleyes:

It takes time to get the steel in from Germany, make molds, proof the molds, then inject resin in the molds creating what we hope is the finished product, but without thorough testing THAT is as far as we can go. Once we have the these mags tested THEN we can go into full production.
Frankly I am quite happy with as fast as this new venture is proceeding. So far we have only been working on the mag project for about 8 months, which considering what all is entailed is REAL quick!

We ARE getting close, but the AT15 mag debacle has taught us something. Don't rush it, get it right, it is waaaay less expensive in the long run.

A little late to the show myself, I knew this was in the works for a while now, well done ATRS, way to pull it off!

As a member of the Maritime Helicopter community reading 'MH' abreviated this way will take some getting used to. About 3 years ago I set out on a ~$3,000 journey to build a non-restricted semi-auto 308 and have a heavily modified Norinco M305 shooting 'MoA' but have not been around the range/reloading bench enough to really put it through some testing.

After reading through this thread and the FAQ I figure the only thing I do not like about the Modern Hunter is the lack of an adjustable gas plug. As some members have stated, some match grade ammo is incredibly hot. Is there any chance you guys at ATRS could offer this to people who are willing to pay? It sounds trivial but allow me to tell you that having my M305 spit my nice Lapua brass less than 2 feet from the bench is a real good feeling, especially after you look at the chronny!

It is not a matter of offering it those who want to pay. The problems with adjustable gas blocks on this platform is the incredibly high rate of failure to function they create.
We wanted to manufacture a RELIABLE rifle, and the more stuff can be monkeyed with by the consumer the less reliable the gun becomes.

I can't speak for all but my MH drops spent casings 2 feet forward and to the right in a nice little pile. Something I can not say happens with my TRW M14, FN FAL or HK G3.

Compiling my wish list for my Modern Varminter so I am ready when the time comes.

Will the proof research cfw barrels be available in .223 or .204 ( if the 204 is a viable option) on the MV?

To those of you who went with the proof barrels on their Modern Hunters, are you happy with your decision?

All of us at the shop here went CFW barrel and the consensus is positive, but I too would like to have some feedback from others who went that route.

I found out today mine is on its way, but without a mag. Anybody know where I can find some mags in stock? Or anyone have a gen2 pmag they can sell me?

Your telling me they are shipping mh's without mags?
Its a 5000 dollar rifle. .. I would be pretty mad if mine showed up without a mag and I couldn't shoot it.... you would think they would include an xcr mag or something so it was at least usable until they finished their new mags.

$3000+ rifle, not 5000... Also, why not ask if the poster ORDERED it, with full knowledge that they won't receive a magazine because the gen 3s don't work etc? Did gunguy opt to purchase his mags independently? That's where I'd start before throwing out comments like that...

Yea they shipped mine with no mag. When I ordered my MH it was supposed to come with 1 mag and use gen3 pmags. Stuff happens though (the mag issues) and overall I'm very happy with ATRS and will gladly pay another 5,000 for a MV.
