ATT's what you need to know

RE: Quebec

Vinzer, thanks for the steps. But I've got some questions if anyone can answer...

I. Do you absolutely NEED to belong to a club before purchasing a handgun?

II. What if you want to purchase a few handguns now because of some great deals and join a club next year?

III. If you don't want to join a club (which I can understand after reading Law 9 and all of its regulations...) AND if you don't want to claim that you are a collector, is it still possible to purchase a handgun?

Only for Quebec (for other provinces it may be different), as far as I know:

I. Yes you MUST have a valid membership with the club in province Quebec
II. See previous answer.
III. You may pay for your handgun, however I am not sure that CFO will allow this transaction and transfer the handgun to you until you get your membership.

Ontario ATT qn. Does anyone know if it is possible to have Military/Federal gov't ranges added to their LTATT or would they be covered?

100% correct on all points.

Buying Restricteds on the EE

Hopefully some of you guys that have some experience buying and selling handguns on the EE could chime in with protocol for shipping and ATT's etc. Specifically for Ontario in my case. Thanks in advance.

Don't know if you got this sorted out yet, but this is how it went for me.

1. Seller initiates transfer with CFO.
2. Buyer confirms transfer info with CFO.
3. CFO authorizes transfer.
4. Buyer requests long term ATT from local FO.
5. Seller requests temp. ATT from local FO to get to post office.
6. Buyer requests temp. ATT from local FO to pick up at post office.

I did not expect #6...

I guess you do not need it if you get the package at your door right?

the more I think about it the less sense it makes.... I'm gonna have to research this. Wish I could post exactly what I have in mind but I will not feed the trolls so I'll keep my mouth shut.

I have read in several places that you do not need a ATT to pick up a package that happens to contain a firearm. I don't see why you would, I mean, does the clerk at the post office need a PAL, or do canada post truck drivers need a ATT/PAL?

That's a gray area that most people choose not to draw attention to.

after some reading on the cfc-cafc and some PM with evan the cdn here was my conclusion:

"well, that still does not make sense... so I'll add that to the pile."

Québec

I can answer for Quebec. I bought my first handgun about 2 months ago.

1. follow a security course for handgun
2. Fill in the form, have your wife and 2 persons who know you signed the form.
3. Mail it to CFC and wait for the "restricted" class be added to your existing non restricted PAL.

4. Get a shooting club membership
5. Order a handgun from a store.

6. The CFC will call one of the person who signed the restricted pal form to verify if you don't intend to make some trouble

7. The Quebec provincial Police who is responsible to issue the ATT (in Quebec) will call you and ask for a proof of shooting club
membership. Fill in the ATT form, and send it with a photocopy of your membership card. Write TBD as the gun's serial number.

8. You will receive 2 ATT, One for the transportation from the seller to your home and one for the transportation from your home to
the club (period of validity will be less than 1 year because may be you won't be member of the club next year!).

9. Then the seller can ship you the gun

10. You receive the gun, then your receive the ATT and then the handgun registration.

ouf!!!

that is exactly how it happened with me too...
on my 1st handgun! :D
took a little less that a month from order to my hands.
