ATT's what you need to know

A proper ATT will state "for all firearms which you possess a certificate for". Though the CFO's are loathe to issue such it is possible and perfectly legal.

I requested that on my ATT and was declined. I suppose their rational is that opens the door for me to borrow restricted firearms without contacting them first for a temp att.

I have the standard "registered to principle address" or whatever it says. (haven't looked in a while).

#1. Did they refuse in writing? If not.. it is ILLEGAL.

"The responsible person who refuses or revokes must do it in writing [FA s. 72(1)]. A voice on the telephone cannot do either of those things, so any firearms control bureaucrat who tries to do that should be told that he is exceeding his authority under FA s. 72, and that you will wait for his refusal or revocation to be delivered to you in writing, as the law requires."

If they say it is "policy"... calmly state that policy is NOT law and they are duty bound to adhere to the actual law.

If they actually send the refusal (which they are loathe to do of course).. file for a reference hearing (at no cost) at your local court house as is allowed by section 72 / 74. (see the link for full details)

Read thoroughly and save yourself a copy. It is an excellent article on this subject:

http://nfa.ca/resource-items/document-refusal-and-revocation

If your app that they refused was some time ago that can still be appealed and/or you can use a fresh app (you do NOT need to do such through any range/club etc again contrary to the BS the CFO's love to say).. You can find the un-gimped app available via links here.

That BS restriction they are trying to impose does absolutely SFA good.. but since most either don't read it or sadly don't care it is again being used to erode our rights as is being dictated by a petty bureaucrat. :( (Are you any more of a "public danger" if you borrow a legal firearm from a friend or if you go to the range with your own? The is a severe lack of common sense there to say the least and again it is used to control us.. and limit what we are entitled to do.)

And remember.. unless we ALL fight back they win.. and they will continue to act as if their creation of "policy" is law. That is unacceptable to say the least since our laws in this area are already way beyond insane.

So I was approved recently for a Restricted transfer and I called in to get an LTATT. Apparently the CFO just wrote me up a LTATT without telling me and sent it in the mail the same time he approved my transfer. I found that kinda cool.

I should be getting it today or Monday and I'll confirm.

Is that wording just two different ways of saying the same thing?

No its two different things.

1) is any restricted you have the registration certificate in your possession, ie I hand you my p226 and the cert and you can transport it
2)is only the restricted firearms registered to you address, ie I hand you my p226 and the cert and you cant transport it

Only took them 5 days to approve my LTATT, but what they didn't tell me is that it was issued for only the specific firearms I own, and only for Approved ranges (IE no gunsmiths, border crossings, etc).

Problem being now I can't take my wife's firearms and she can't take mine to the range unless each other are present.
I even discussed the application with them in person when I dropped it off, they said it was fine, then they changed it and issued me a gimped one.

What does it say on it??

From what I have seen, some are only to approved ranges and others are good to ranges and gunsmiths etc.

Faxed my LATT to the Surrey, BC office a couple week before Christmas. Still nothing. Any BCers experiencing similar? I am just going to the CFO this Friday and hand them my application in person, as I took the day off.

I've just purchased a pistol, live in Ontario and don't currenlty belong to a gun club (waiting on safety course) so no long-term ATT.

Has anyone tried, is it possible, to call the CFO to get a short-term ATT to take it to a club that allows day passes?

I have tried and the answer is no
You will only get a ATT to transport firearm from store or postoffice to your home
Transport papers will be sent to cfo by your club
Also I found out tbe hard way last Tuesday when I went to target sports with my new handgun that new rules for ATT only can transport to your own club wd need letter of invite now even for public shooting ranges like target sports
So you will bave to wait till you get your club to apply for your ATT
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info.

Hi Folks Anyone know if LTATT's are updated automatically by the CFO in B.C. after buying a new pistol ? I received one with no registration certificate numbers on it. Is this normal? Thanks

If I understood correctly, if I bought a restricted gun at a store
and needed a short term att to transport it from the store to my home that
can be done?

I'm in NB. Waiting for my (r)pal to be issued. I have a couple
.22lr in mind to get started off.

edit: is there a post/thread that describes the ATT for NB?
