I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the USB to connect USB error This device cannot start code 10). Issue is possibly a counterfeit chip inside the USB. Found a possible solution trying to resolve as I type. Keep you guys updated on a solution.

308BAR go to Radioddity and download the driver. Windows puts in the newer one automatically and it does not work. You need to install the back dated version of the driver, then should work.

I actually started with the prolific 3.2.0 driver and ensured it was back dated correctly. Still running into issues with it being undetected with the code 10 issues. I'll try it again but it seems futile I've done everything at least 3 times already.

Miklor is the defacto authority for all things cheap chinese radios. This may help:

Thank you for the help :) but prior to your post I had already visited those links and site and followed all instructions regarding the software drivers. I greatly appreciate the help. Tried all methodology it looks like I'm going to order a authentic FTDI chipset genuine USB cable I'm tired of messing around with the canam one. So buyer beware there are known issue with some USB to serial connectors some may work mine did not. YMMV.

Question for our CGN experts... My radio came pre programmed with about 18 or more channels. No idea what these are. Should I delete them before entering my own channel picks?

I'd take a wild guess that they are FRS/GMRS channels, but if they aren't labelled such, then delete them and start from scratch. With the software, it is pretty easy.

Start with these http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/FRS/GMRS_combined_channel_chart

You can add a label to each frequency as you program them so they are easy to understand when using the radios.

... well one of them is a local RCMP freq so best not to use that

Definitely! Although you could choose to simply delete the transmit frequency from the configuration, thereby making it a "listen only" channel. Not much use in my area anymore since they switched to encrypted.

This is the way it should be done with the NOAA/WeatherRadio Canada channels too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weatheradio_Canada

(very handy to have those on your radios)

I'm too dumb to program my Baofeng 82 so I just keep a list a frequencies with the radios and change them manually.

After playing around for ages trying to get mine to work, it turns out the cable I got from canam today required the Ch340 driver that came with it on the mini disc. In the Usb folder there is a subfolder called CH340. I opened the CH341ser.exe file with winrar and extracted all the files to a folder. I then pointed windows to the inf file in that folder and boom, works fine with chirp. Will then show up in device manager as USB-SERIAL CH340 (COMx)

for the usb cable you need a driver

Download the Prolific 3.2.0.0
for 32 bit window->
for 64 bit window->

if none of this driver dont fix the issue you can try this driver work on some pc with new type cable

Plug the USB programming cable into the USB port of your PC.
You should see a balloon popup that says "Installing device driver software
A few seconds later you will get a balloon popup that says
"Device driver software was not successfully installed"
