If a 7 runs a 162 Amax, a 300 needs to spit a 208 to rival its BC. If a 7 runs a 180 VLD, a 300 needs to run a 215 to match/trump it. Mind you the 230 .308 cal hybrid is in another realm...same could be said for 190 and 200 grn. .284" pills, then you're getting into muzzle breaks and heavy contours.
My shoulder tells me to go 7mm....
Im not sure I know the Wildcat 200 grn ULD was kicking around but I'm sure its limited. I was just trying to convey the point that the 7mm is more, for far, far less.
Matrix is making a 190 VLD right now with an estimated .807 BC, ***rumour*** has it that BC isnt close, its actually in the mid .700s? Something for you to look at anyways.
Lol yep , i took a doe at about 75 yards last weekend with a headshot freestanding ;-)
No pics...she was kinda ugly.
Ups thinks im setting up for a war with all the ammo i been going thru this year![]()
Both cartridges are excellent, and both will do the job. As far as felt recoil it depend of the stock configuration and the total weight of the rig, I hunt with both, I reload 175 grain for the 7mm mag and 190 grain tip for the 300 WM, both in my case perform best at maximum load and the recoil is very manageable, however my 7mm mag kick harder and different than the 300 WM. The 7 is more of a kick when the 300 is more of a push.
One last comment, I am very amused when I read coment relating to 1000 and 1500 yards performance.....I wonder how many of the writhers practice shoots at 400/500 yrds with success... big difference in taking those shoots sitting confortably on a bench than out in the field on real huntig situations..........
