bringing together all the 'what should my first hunting rifle be' thread advice

I heard about this site on oodmag.com, and since I'm looking at buying my first rifle, I thought I'd come here and spend some time doing some research. Less than 10 minutes since registering, and ALOT of my questions were answered with this one thread. wow!

Ruffed Grouse, Thank you!!!

Cheers!

Great thread man. Alot of info in there I'd imagine you worked hard on it.

Just to add, that alot of those cartridges are available in the Browning BLR for those guys who love their levers :)

Very nice write up RG. I especially liked the 35 Remington and 300 Savage parts. These calibers are forgotten by a lot of people and shouldn't be because they are both great.

I personally use a 30-06 BRNO and a Savage 99 in 300. I'm itching for Moose season to start so i can put them to use. I've killed a few things with my 30-06 so far but the 300 Savage is a virgin in my hands so hopefully a nice bull will walk out in front of me this year and give me a chance to break her in.

I'm not much of a Magnum guy so this thread has been a breath of fresh air compared to the "Will a 300 Mag be good enough for Moose?" threads. Thanks for writing it and i'll add that this should be a sticky because everyone should be reading it. Newb or Grey Beard.
