C1A1 - Who has em and loves em!

Here's an overall old pic of my 8L series and most of the kit that goes along with it. As was issued with it when I did my basic back in '78.

Instructor lesson plans. PAMS. Grenade and launcher. Dummy/parade/test rounds on charger. 30 round mag and bra. Cleaning kit and tools. Magazine mandrels and forming tools. Vehicle rifle rack. AN/PVS 502. C1 Sniper scope. Bayonet. Webbing (ya the set that doesn't have any mag pouches:rolleyes: Who came up with that idea?) Muzzle cover.

If there is anything I'm missing and someone wants to get rid whatever it is, please let me know:D

How'bout the round rubber dome shaped foresight cover?

I remember being handed one of the "Starlite" scopes to use on top of a carrying-handle type C7 on a patrol. Worse than useless.

Never heard of duct tape?
They were useless on the flattop as well. Wrong rail.

I bought 16 of the various starlights when they went up for auction. Only guy who was seriously bidding against me was a hutterite, and every time he went up 5, I went up 50. He quit soon enough.

Were they any use?
The only compaints being levelled here are about the mount not fitting a rifle they were not intended for. The scopes themselves worked reasonably well. Although they made a squeel like a trapped mosquito, and the view through them was a sickening green/yellow, it was amazing the difference between what they would show compared to the naked eye at night.

At the auction where I went to buy them, they had them all laid out on a trailer. The local farmers would be looking through them, and when they couldn't see anything, they were pointing them up at the sun, trying to see if the scopes worked. Fortunately, of the 16 I bought, there were only 1 good set of batteries amongst the bunch. Had the batteries in them all worked, I could have been buying scrap with burned tubes.

If theywere complete to CES there woild have been an AR mount in the box. We had them and had to account for them although I only used it on an AR once, by then we had the KITE CWS! Fancy that at a farm auction!

Funnily enough we used them best when using IR filtered ambush lights. Absolutely brilliant, the bad guys on the border didnt have NODs so we were able to illuminate the border crossings covertly! Apart from that they were liked best as they were so much lighter than the IWS!

I collected a number of various adapters back then for the various weapons systems. One oddball was a FNC1 scopecover with the rail on the side to accept the 501 scope, which was meant for the Carl G/ C3. But I have never seen a C7 adapter for any of the scopes (TVS501, TVS 502, and PVS 502) . Anyone have a photo of one?
The one adapter I would like to find is the night vision adapter for the L42. It would be kind of neat to attach a night vision scope to the Enfield sniper. \

And just to bring the thread back to topic, here is an older photo of my pair of C1A1 and C2A1 (both neutered):

That was in the L42 transit case I believe, I'm sure it wasnt in the IWS box!
I have seen it used and there were photos on the way down to the Falklands showing it being zeroed!

I certainly don't want to hijack this thread, but to answer your question stencollector, does this fit the bill? Our night shoots are a lot of fun with this and other NV.

I use this set up quite frequently. It gives me the exact same cheek weld/hold/sight alignment as with the Elcan scope. Which I think is very good.

Here is the same scope mounted on the HK with a picurweenie rail.

We had the NOD but that was left in OPs. Us grunts had the IWS but at least the mount had it at a point where you werent having to stand up to shoot it!

My bold, the brackets were removed from the crates when it was sold for surplus. I have a feeling that the Armourer in the photo below knows where they are!

This was the standard mount!

If you think that is huge, you should see the icecream pail size TVS-502. It was meant for the top of the 30 and 50 cal. Magnification is no greater than the smaller(ish) 501 and PVS 502, but it made the 30 cal look small.

Yup...but once it was on the .50, that 8 inch catadioptric lens made for some awesome light gathering ability. Yes, it was GEN I, but it still worked.
