C1A1 - Who has em and loves em!

Try the Army Rumour service, there is a couple of sections that deal with this!

Interesting site Tim! I've been reading on this thread.

<I would like to move to canada (west coast). lower aparent crime, a more sensible attitude and Canadians are very friendly. I did a season skiing in whistler, when I got back I had a problem with how un-approachable we english are. In canada you can just talk to people, on a ski lift, a bus, anywhere. I started to talk to a few people in the UK in the same way when I got back, only to be greeted my a look of horror on thier faces! (who is this crazy bloke who is talking to me!) It took me a while to realized what the issue was. very sad that we are so isolated from each other.

Hey Tim, have you got some Canadian blood? I see your grand dad was in the RCAF?

Now I hadnt seen a SUSAT on a top cover before. That SUIT of mine came from an Ex REME instrument tech and now lives in NZ.
He was my Grandad, remustered from the Royal Montreal Regt as the war was very slow and died on his first tour of ops.
He was born in Bradford, Gt Grandad was discharged of wounds from CEF in 1917 and settled in Yorkshire where he was born.
ARRSSE has some good multinational forums and more of us cross bred dominion types need to shout as the yanks do a lot and suffer for it. Well you can imagine what British Squaddies are like!

The price sounds about right especially if the unit is complete with all the extras such as tools and pouches and the correct Canadian half cover mount. If you are collecting items for the C1 rifle then it's got to be on the list of things to get.

It might not be 'shootable' but it's very collectable.

Here's some pics of a display I did for my 8L rifle (sorry about the quality of them).

Thanks. Yes, it was complete in the aluminium case with accessories.
I guess I now have to go and find it, or another.
I see you have a scabbard mandrel. I'm still looking for one.

What is the history on how an 8L C1 made it's way to NZ?

Now I hadnt seen a SUSAT on a top cover before.

The SUSAT was a was trailed on the L5A1 Weaponsight (Pocket scope) mount and did see very limited use during Desert Storm but wasn't liked.

The problem was there were no spares for the SUIT sights so in some cases the SUSAT was used instead.

AVIMO who made the sights could also sell you a mount/rail for the SLR rifle, they were determined to put the SUSAT on anything they could to increase sales.

I see you have some very nice items yourself that I've been looking for like the magazine mandrels.

The C1A1 is probably the only one down here and was brought in about 7 years ago, again it's an ex OPP rifle. I would love to get my hands on an early C1 and a C2A1 to add to collection along with a 1A1.

Done some asking on your behalf, never mind the banter there is some interesting info in there. Good luck and post on there you will be welcome but inundated with questions about moving down under!
I'll get in first!
Latest reports from the sandpit say that we are to be trialling sights similar to the Canadian ones as the SUSAT are wearing out!

I have fired many FAL including C1s. They are just a dream as far as legally owning one though, due to stupid decisions made by stupid politicians.

Here are the others currently in the "family":

There's also a nice Australian L1A1 currently enroute from the auction house, where it has languished since December 2022 awaiting a registration transfer that was finally granted last week.

Had one years ago....ex OPP, but I NEVER liked the welded up safety sear idea....seemed like a semi dewat to me....shot my 1st C1A1 in 1977 at age 13....I mourn the day the CF destroyed the stored rifles because of the "cost of storage"...thats my understanding anyway....as a student of history it seems prudent to keep a surplus of military arms in storage in case the unthinkable happens...like an invasion....where have we seem that happen lately....but I am just subject of the Crown and my betters must know better than me.. .right?

I own a C2A1, bought new from Canadian Arsenals for $199. (A C1A1 was $139)

I took the bipod off and installed a hollowed-out C1 forend on it, so it became a heavy barrel C1, sort of.

I would love to show you a picture, but it got stolen in a targeted burglary in the '70s.
