C7A2 have arrived at our unit

lol
no worries about that i have a little more expieriance than that, do boresnakes have a NSN now? if they do i would appreciate a pm

thanks

They should be unless they were quick buys for tour. I'll do some digging and try to find it. The CQs normally order them so I'll have to ask one of them.

If you don't over fold the CF 5.56 patches they will work fine in an Otis kit.
Most people's issue with bore snakes is that they get dirty, both with carbon and just dirt, and then you keep running a dirty bore snake down the barrel. There are also the "I just keep the bore snake in my pocket" people who then pull their barrel through with sand and grit. Some people like them, I don't see the need. If I'm going to pull the barrel through I'll use something that I can see is clean like a cleaning rod or Otis kit.

BoreSnakes have an NSN - both 7.62 and 5.56mm have a US NSN, I will dig it out.

SEAL's seem to have a great affinity for them, as they order 5.56mm and 7.62mm guns with them...
You can tell a SEAL Mk11 kit by the fact the cleaning kit that comes with the kit is still in the wrap and only the bore snake has been touched...

I check the CF data base, there is no NSN in the "CF" for 5.56 bore snakes. and I found out we got them through local purchase "2227" Which is not hard to do if your CQ is switch on ;)

As a guy who knows the AR platform well from several angles, what are your feelings about that?

When you see their snake-only guns, do you cringe because it's not nearly enough maintainence? Or do you shrug because it's good enough?

Or do you stand there in somber, monk-like silence, refusing to expose your emotions to the world?

Really hoping for one of the first two...that would be more useful info for me regarding bore snakes.

I have been using snake only for a long time - the snake is supposed to be washed periodically.

The snake has much more surface area - and it naturally expand against the wall of the barrrel - that's effiiciency.

There isn't really a need to scrub a chromelined barrel. Really, not much copper fouling ever come out from scrubbing a chromelined barrel with a brush - maybe i will be more anal if it is a SS barrel.

Wow some of you people don't have a clue about what your talking about, both weapon systems are basically the same, I have fired many thousands of rounds with both weapons in all kinds of weather never had a single problem. If you keep your weapons clean they tend to work properly and do not over oil. One person mentioned the cocking handle catching on one and not the other, yet they are identical pieces. If you carried your weapon correctly and not like a bum the cocking handle isn't any kind of issue, and for the person who said that c9's are generally a reliable weapons clearly has not operated a C9 weapon system very much. yes brand new c9's are pretty awesome and tend to work but most in circulation are way too old to be in anyones hands. And for C6's don't even bother trying to say any good. I have fired and cleaned probably close to 60 different C6's and possibly shot two that could get through 50 rounds without having serious jamming issues, even after changing barrels and gas regulators. If you don't know what your actually talking about, dont talk like you have lots of experience.

1005-01-477-0932 - 9mm Boresnake

1005-01-477-0933 - 12ga Boresnake

Both the forementionned have NSN's in the CF Supply System.

My 2007 Version of the CGCM doesent have a 5.56 version visible, but it might be in the system now. Not at work now... so this will have to do.

The .223/5.56 version is 1005-01-523-8701.

You can look it up on the US system.... this version of the program is avail to the public:
http://www.dlis.dla.mil/webflis/pub/pub_search.aspx

However...

If you really want "the" gucci cleaning kit, spring for the Otis kit. 1005-01-526-7354. In the CFSS.

sooo.... Good luck.

airjmc87 - wow, that was an unnecessrily rude post.
I don't care how many C6s you have fired- some work just fine.
I also don't care how much experience you have, the cocking handles have caused many people problems. If I can't carry it "like a bum" and that is an effective way to carry it, then the problem is the kit not the soldier.
I might have said that C9s are reliable, I can't recall, but guess what -THEY ARE. I have fired them plenty. (you even went on to say that new is good and old is bad, suprise- you disproved your own argument-if it's too old and broken then take it to the techs to have fixed or replaced)

The BoreSnake is what I consider a decent field cleaner - I'm lazy what can I say...

part of my laziness at least at work, has me clamp the rifle in a 1913 rail vice upside down (like we do when we build URX equipped guns) and clean the gun with a Dewey rod -- it save me from holding the rifle to clean.
If I am out doing demo's I usually end up with the upper on a hotel bed, and running the dewey rods as well.

Its not the bore snake is bad - I think they are the cats ass for a M203 or Hk M320 - its just that I can scrub a brush back and forth with a rod and not constantly drop it down and pull it thru -- it remind me to much of pull thru's with a C1 ;)

airjmc87 - we got some C7A2's that arrive in Afghan with bent charging handles - the thing is a POS - it snags on gear. PRI's Fat "military" latch that is used in the SOPMOD block upgrades is a far superior latch, as is LMT's new one, VLTOR's new one (but it needs the front edges radiused or tumbled longer).

The C9/Mk249/Mk46 is a disposable MG -- they get old and loose and cause they are an aluminum hull they wear and cannot be fixed.

Mag-58/C6/M240's run to hell and back as long as they are maintained -- rivets break or come loose and your bolt is on a roller coster of bad times and the gun goes to ####.
we have a beater Mag-58 at the shop and it gets a lot of rounds doing optics tests etc -- replace the parts and it runs and runs and runs...

LUBE - USE IT!

Wow you shot 60 different C6s and they all sucked "come on now are you for real?" Remember the links face up lol

C6s Are awesome "yes they break down here and there but after how many rounds have been put through them?"

C9s Are awesome! never seen a problem that could not be fixed. Hands down worlds best LMG.

C7A2 good minus the sling loop "does not work well with most single point slings" and cocking handle As Kevin said they bend, catch clothing and shear of cocking handle pins"

If you think am full of BS cool, Your goverment seems to think am not and they pay me very well HAHAHAHA "evil laugh"

"I'm the real thing. I've seen the s**t. Believe it man."

Some of you really get worked up. :D

In 8 years I have never, ever seen a single stoppage on a C6.

C9 on the other hand, I am not a huge fan. They work, but I tend to have more stoppages and they feel flimsy. Good weapon, but not a great one.

I do

My wife just says am a passionate guy also to stop looking at CGN and clean the house :(

I thought i was the only one

btw i have have shot numerous c6s and c7s as well and they do suck ........every time you pull the fricken trigger you get more than one shot! and nieter groups for crap at 500, I haven't seen a 1moa one yet :p

my c7 doesn't need a sf kit

BTW if any of you think i was serious...........have another beer ;)

I agree. I'm not a fan of the charging handle. Too big and gets caught on everything. I also don't like the ambidextrous mag release. I had the mag fall out on me a couple of times because the left handed release doesn't have a guard around it. :(
