C7A2 have arrived at our unit

LOL

I don't see any real issues with the A2

kinda funny in the military, when something is shiney, everybody wants it then when they get it they b!tch about it. the world is never perfect folks, if it was there wouldn't be wars

The C7A2 is pretty good, but there is some things that can make it better, etc

Ditch the triad an the plastic handguards an get a M5 RAS, an a better scope. Could have given it a shorter barrel an had has all have a C8 varient, but that didn't happen.

Nothing worse than being on patrol overseas and having your fire team partner clutch his rifle to his chest a little too tight. Ambidextrous mag release engages, mag hits the ground, bottom of the mag pops off and 30 shiny gold things litter the sand. Section has to set up all around D so that he can pick up all his rounds. Not embarrassing at all! I never saw that happen before they threw all the ambidextrous crap on it!

A bad compromise. Much of the "upgrades" could have been skipped and the money spent on useful stuff.

Ref the mag release, being a lefty I have dropped mags on patrol etc with the a1 many times. Ambi mag release is about the only thing I would keep :D.

Part of the problems with the balance on the A2 is the barrel profile. The CF originally wanted a meduim weight barrel for the original C7, rather than the skinny under the hanguards/heavy past the sight profile of the M-16A2, but Colt would not let them.

What really should have been done is a 16" with a midlength gas system and a rail forend from the factory. Instead we get this incrimental tinkering.

As for the original question of the thread, I though the C-8 cleaning kit pouches had all been withdrawn and surplussed.

Most regular and reserve units now have the cleaning kit pouches on issue. Not everyone has them yet but they are available. I'm not sure if it's the same NSN as the C8 pouch (probably) but they are brand new production.

Easiest thing they could have done, and should have done is issue C8s.

I dont have the stock number, but are they the ones that fit on to your belt? Those are the ones we use and they seem to work just fine... What unit are you from? 45 Engineer Squadron here.

I would use them for a quick pull-though but i don't rely on them only myself

Whats there not to rely on "plz explain to this Wpns tech :)"

The only thing they are not good for is cleaning the SIM plastic from your bore other then that they work great.

I just feel the "rod and patch" do a more thorough job, I i am going to give my rifle a good "going over" i am not going to use a bore snake

You would be suprised on how well they work, Giving you more time to clean what matters most "the bolt assy".

Unless you in battle school or PLQ where the gun must be super human clean lol Then I can see using the rod and patch.

We have tried the OTIS kits but they are PITA and you have to uses there patches or cut down the CF ones smaller.

NOTE DO NOT USE A PATCH ON THE BORE SNAKE !!!!!!!!!!! I have had to drill out 4 so far PLZ STOP lol
