Canadian Rangers C19

Are they standard T3x CTR mags that are causing issues or are they different 10-rounders designed specifically for this rifle?

the rifles themselves are what 2500-2800 and that is the Sako/Tika ones.
with the couple changes that where made for the Rangers and add on R&D im sure they where more than 2800 per unit all said and done.
but that is just the rifle.

i heard rumblings that all in for the entire package per Ranger the price was North of 6k per unit (case, tools, ect ect).
i havnt heard a concrete number, just rumours.

Wonder how many cases and tools will go missing... interesting to see how a bunch of these rifles look after bouncing around a toboggan and pounding in tent pegs for a couple years

I think the mag base is different. Same metal parts. I got to shoot the prototypes and they had the same issues with the mags.

The only thing that appeals to me is the nice long sight radius good quality irons on a bolt action 308!
The only rifle that fits that bill for me right now is my Israeli Mauser.
I imagine the price tag on them is disgusting to say the least though sadly :(

I appreciate the comparison and the teardown videos. Very informative!

What is your operational opinion on the Ruger action vs. the Tikka's?

Thanks for taking the time to do the comparisons. It's greatly appreciated.

I'd just like to point out that the Ruger also has a 3 position safety which allows for operation of the bolt while the safety is on.

ill have to look at that!
i dont use saftey's, IM the safety!

Ruger’s probably got the best safety in the business, as it physically blocks / catches the cocking piece on “full safe”. The mid position is just like a model 70 as Orion points out, you can work the bolt but the trigger remains locked out. Hunting with an M77 I usually leave the wing safety hanging out in the “mid” position when close to shooting, you can either rapidly thumb it forward or pinch it and silently swing it to off.

How about this, for the scope of your activities as a Ranger, and you could only have one of the rifles (pretend the C19 was available lefty) which would you choose?

hard for me to make a vote on that so soon after getting the C19.
lets just say this.... ive had my Ruger Scout for 5 and a half years and ive never had 1 failure with it.
not one.
ive had the C19 out one day for qualifying and i had at least 20 failures (all magazine related) not to mention i had to glue the brass insert for my butt stock back in.

but dont read too much into that because im sure if the magazine would work good the rifle would act flawlessly.

but it dosnt, so there is that.

My father is a member here in NL and they got their rifles a few weeks back. A few guys had feeding issues, my dad included, but they only shot around 35 rounds each. Mags weren't seating correctly and rounds were staying in the mag. I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but will probably get to try it out in the spring some time for bear hunting. Nice rifles though, aside from the feeding issues and the price tag.

I was thinking I would start a new thread here on CGN and aska question, but I figure I'll ask here for now:

What is everyone doing for scope mounting on these? My father has a Vortex with a 1" tube, and I'm thinking of getting a one piece QD mount for it so he can easily take it off for yearly quals. The mount needs to be about 1.5" in height so the scope can clear the rear sight. I have looked at a few mounts and it seems like they're mostly too short. Anyone have any suggestions?
