So you'd only carry after something happens to you or someone around you?
Ill go out on a limb and say I would imagine even in the states most CCW holders only ever need their firearm once, often never...and certainly not on a regular basis unless you're Zimmerman.
Carrying is not 'for fun'.
If it wasnt law...would you only wear your seatbelt after you've experienced an accident?
What about that first aid kit in the trunk...there before or after an accident?
What about door locks....do you lock your doors regularly? Is it because b&e's are common at your place or is it...... a preventative measure for that one time it COULD happen.
Yup, only carry if the risk is there. It is call RISK MANAGEMENT.
To date I know folks that have been hurt/killed in car accidents. Too many B&E stories so yes, wear seatbelt, have first aid kit, lock the doors cause the risk is specific and measurable.
To date I don't know anyone personally that have been injured by firearms or home invasion (outside of line of duty). As a matter of fact I ask many "ANTIs" to identify victim they personally know to assess risk; thus far none. Maybe I'm lucky, live in a good neighbourhood but till the risk is there I'd rather carry a machete than a firearm.
I'll upgrade my 2013 reply to: Glock 22 or 23 .40 S&W stoked with 180 gr JHP's.

If the sad days comes a 2.5-3" 686 with speer Golddot ammo or similar.
Maybe it's just that there are 35 ####ing million people in this country and you didn't talk to everybody, eh?
...
Maybe you should read the ####ing title that ask what YOU would carry and not the other 35 million people.
You know how stupid you sound complaining that a personal opinion should NOT be based on personal experience.
Almost 4 years since I asked this question (where has the time gone)..…and in 2015 I'll still vote for a Glock36.
