Classic cartridges in the field

An interesting thread, especially then I look at some of the rifles and calibers I have available. Many seem to fall in the 'classic cartridge' category.

What rifle is your Sharpe & Hart chambered in? I've been toying with building a 7x61, maybe on an M98 spare I have. It's either the 7x61 or 333 Jeffery on that action.

There's a reasonably priced shultz and larson in the ee right now. $600 think it has dies and brass too. If I wasn't broke it wouldn't be there anymore.

Mine is a Schultz & Larsen, model 68DL.

I had the guy selling the one on EE send me pictures and near as I can tell from the photos, price wise, sounds reasonable.

I'll be taking a #1 out this year, 450/400NE. It's got to earn some of it's keep.
Hopefully the moulds will be here in the next week, and I can get busy on some loads for it.

Since I still have some elk meat in the freezer I will take a gun that I don't want to get dirty, is to heavy to lug around, can't make "long shots" and is generally inappropriate. That way I won't actually be able to shoot anything even if I see it,, thus maintaining the perfect freezer level.
-470 NE for me this year.

HA HA HA, that's awesome!

For me this year its all .50 flinter and a 12 gauge double, All you'll ever need for deer, bear, grouse, partridge and rabbits. I guess thats classic enough.
Skokie.

I recently read an article that claimed the (1958 intro') .338WM was a new classic cartridge... go figure...

I guess to a 20 year old hunter - who has hunted exclusively in the WSM/RUM era, it is a classic. I think to myself, hey, 1958 wasn't that long ago (before my time mind you), but 53 years have passed since then.

Another way to look at it is that 53 years before 1958 was pre- .30-06, pre-H&H Magnums etc.

Maybe we are getting old and don't realize it - kind of reminds me of a shirt I saw: "Inside every old man is a young man thinking "What the f--- happened?""

One of two choices this year if I get out, cancer problems.

Winchester 94, 32 Special or 303 Jungle Carbine, over a hundred years old must make then classics by now.

Wishing you the best of results with the 'problem' and all possible success in giving the two you've mentioned a GOOD WORKOUT this season. Thinking of you and wishing you all the best.
