I hunted a few years with a Savage M99 in 300 Savage. An EG built in 1947, loved that rifle, but was sold because it didn't fit me right and I couldn't bring myself to alter it. It now has a new home.
For me it'll be a 6.5x54 and a 358 norma mag this year, maybe the 25-20 if I can one to hold still 2 feet away.
Nice - in an 1886 or an 1885?
An interesting thread, especially then I look at some of the rifles and calibers I have available. Many seem to fall in the 'classic cartridge' category.
What rifle is your Sharpe & Hart chambered in? I've been toying with building a 7x61, maybe on an M98 spare I have. It's either the 7x61 or 333 Jeffery on that action.
Since I still have some elk meat in the freezer I will take a gun that I don't want to get dirty, is to heavy to lug around, can't make "long shots" and is generally inappropriate. That way I won't actually be able to shoot anything even if I see it,, thus maintaining the perfect freezer level.
-470 NE for me this year.
I recently read an article that claimed the (1958 intro') .338WM was a new classic cartridge... go figure...
One of two choices this year if I get out, cancer problems.
Winchester 94, 32 Special or 303 Jungle Carbine, over a hundred years old must make then classics by now.
