Cleaning the front of a stainless revolver cylinder

Have you tried, scotchbrite pads with solvent of your choice. Works for me. I don't think it is too harsh a media for this area, would not suggest using it all over the frame.....

Ick! That looks nasty. What kind of filthy dog ammo are you using anyway?
The cylinder on my 629 is discoloured too but from heat not from nasty looking scunge.

Reloads from a "factory reloads" place ... this was 1 box of .38 and half a box of .357 believe it or not ... I was kinda surprised as well ...

1. Quit shooting PMC ammo.
2. Spray with bore cleaner of you choice and let sit for 10 minutes.
3. Use Crest spinbrush, bore cleaner to remove crud (could also use any fine polishing compound)
4. Treat clean cylinder with Froglube to avoid crud buildup in the future.
5. Ignore store specials on PMC ammo.

I like the spinbrush idea, thanks ... as for ammo, please see above post ...

Froglube will prevent this?

Froglube wikl prevent this?

Not really, it makes it ever so slightly easier to clean the carbon off, but does nothing for the burn rings (or so I've found)

Just remember, Froglube + Time = FrogGlue. Not for me...

Definitely a +1 for the Birchwood Casey Lead Remover cloth!

I have been using the lead remover cloth for over 25 yrs, a little square is all you need. This subject came up not too long ago on here and someone says the cleaner that you use on glass stove tops works great i have as of yet tried it

Lead remover cloth works well.

Yes but good luck finding the birchwood casey one in Canada. I even tried to order from Brownell's a while back (8mos or so) : they cancelled the order because of chemical makeup and Canadian regs... WTF? I am down to my last few & I find the work much better than the Hoppe's equivalent

Anyways I'm hoping to find some soon.... somewhere...maybe?!

Op......

Please keep "steep wool" and "firearms" in separate sentences.

For pities sake....

I would not use steel wool on anything stainless (firearms, pots, pans, knives etc.) unless you want to find out how to make stainless steel rust.

I use a lead remover cloth. But since they seem to be hard to find around me I started using a green scotch pad and hopes solvent and then just a polish with a small piece of the lead remover cloth I have left.

Amazon.com for Birchwood Casey lead removing cloths, currently $7.33US. However, I have easy access to a cross border post box so I have never had an issue buying it or finding it available.
