Wow, that is scary. As others have mentioned, the firearm is now ruined because of their sloppy work, they should almost be liable to replace it with a new one at this point.
If that is also a family air loom (coming from your Dad?) then even a new replacement is not enough. They should give it to their most competent guy to redo from scratch, making it 100% working and to your liking, and not charge you for the work. I think that would be the only "fair" compensation.
