Crusader arms backland

Why are we paying 2K for Norinco quality?

Paying 2k you at least machine the bolt carrier, and not go ape with a grinder.

Like Ford 80k truck. They welded square tube to extend the muffler hangers. 80k Quality.....
Because Canadian workers get paid more than $0.12 per day unlike Chinese slaves....

You haven't been here long enough for me to care to present you with that evidence (All of which is very easily searchable on this website) nor have you been around to witness his long track record of pulling the rug out on customers to grand stand on that losers behalf. Before you spout off in support of stupidity, do your own due diligence and read about the person you're so quick to defend.
I’m not defending anyone, I’m just stating that the R9 wasn’t put on the market to make a quick buck, it was legal and non restricted when released until the Feds decided it was not for an invalid reason, I don’t own one and I don’t owe anything to JR and whatever he did in the past isn’t relevant here because I’m talking about a rifle that was legal when it came out and how the Feds screwed everyone who bought it over by changing their opinion on it.

good thing a rifle with an NR frt has never been banned before, right? ...
No never! Smart arse hahaha! Sure the Liberals could ban it later but if it’s going to be put on the market, it should at least not potentially be a variant of a very similar rifle that’s already prohibited since 2020, so Crusader should be verifying with an FRT that it’s non restricted so people don’t end up with another Crypto regardless of the Liberals maybe banning it at a later date, because in the case of the Crypto they didn’t get an FRT before selling it and then the Feds said “Nope this was always a prohibited firearm!” which means it was never legal to own and if you have one you’re screwed, no amnesty for you with that rifle. I know man, it’s been a f*cking rough 5 years for everyone.

won't be buying it due to questionable quality and uncertainty with what the RCMP wants to ban at the moment, but I've gotta give it to Crusader Arms for at least making something semi-auto in this incredibly hostile environment. Doesn't mean they're making quality firearms, but I appreciate them for at least coming up with new designs.

It appears to be a cute idea, but it needs to be a significant jump in quality and reliability from Crusader before I consider cute idea novelty for 2k

You must of had a minority experience. 80k+ T81s sold here in Canada and you’re the only one I’ve heard from who’s had a T81 explode. Twice. I had two of them and they ran great before selling. No bells and whistles but they were built like tanks.

This on the other hand has all the bells and whistles and is most likely built like an egg carton. I think you will soon find that this certainly isn’t “better quality or overall value than a T81”.

If you’ve ever handled another Spectre LTD (Crusader Arms) product then you should know better.
Crappy (sometimes almost laughable) machining, rushed to market designs that haven’t had proper testing, questionable finishing and anodizing, no customer support, no FRTs, all at inflated prices.
They don’t give a #### about QC, longevity or proper testing as they know they won’t be around long anyway.

Don’t get me wrong. Looks like a fun rifle. But way overpriced - even compared to their Crypto for the parts set - and looking at that bolt - horribly machined.

I’m not ####ting on Canadian innovation in the firearms market - I’m ####ting on companies taking advantage of the political situation to churn out pretty turds at over inflated prices.

I hope these will survive the bans, make it past 10k rounds, and set a precedent for new semi auto rifle design in Canada. Ideally with some refinement and a lowering of the price tag. I also hope to win the lottery one day too 🤷
Well I found out, and unfortunately my findings were against what I stated in my previous comment; will post pics later...

Tactical imports should have warrantied them for you if they failed
I’ve never heard of them blowing up either, just having crooked barrel/sight alignment and a couple cracked trunions
They were supposed to have been piggybacked off of military contract runs so you wouldn’t think they would be junk
Time will tell if these backlands will be any good or not, they are starting to ship out now so we should find out if they are decent enough out of the box once a few people get them

Picked up my backland from the post today ( thanx bullseye )
Looks good from my initial inspection, no bubba grind marks and the bluing on the reciever is nice
The front mounting lugs that some had a concern with are pretty thick depth wise so I don’t think they will be a problem but they definitely could have beefed those up
Lots of preservative oil on everything so it needed a good clean
It handles better then i thought it would, was thinking it was gonna need a pistol grip stock on it but don’t think it does
Don’t really care for the Turkish trigger group they used in it but will see how it works when i go and test this thing out
I’m up in the air about the mags too
They seem too tight to get all five rounds in, the gun might have issues stripping the first round but won’t know until I try it, I’m not sure how these mags even come apart, was thinking maybe the follower could be filed a bit to make the rounds not so stiff to get in
It came with six mags too so that was a nice touch
Is it worth 2k?
Compared to what we used to be able to get for less I would say prob not but it is what it is unfortunately
Hopefully someone comes up with an aftermarket trigger group for it at some point

Please keep us posted and maybe some photos! Anyone know if they are any after market stocks/grips?

The thoughts and opinions were so negative, bullseye deleted the thread they made on the front page. It's them trying to make a quick buck, just the same as JR cox did with the sterling r9. Don't bother to be the legal/manufacturing guinea pig.
To be fair the Sterling R9 was out before the ban in December 2024, that ban make the AR-180B prohibited, not long after the Feds decided to falsely classify the R9 as prohibited under the claim that it’s a variant of the AR-180B which it’s not, either way the anger and frustration is understandable.

If you live in SK or AB, and want this rifle, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Would it even really matter? The RCMP operate as the provincial police, as well as the police for small towns and cities in both provinces. They might not be going door to door, but they're bound by federal law, no matter what the alberta "constitution" says. If they find someone in contravention of federal gun laws, that person is kind of SOL. It won't be like having a banned rifle found by Calgary police, who I would imagine are bound to provincial law.

I took the backland out to work with me and had a chance to put a few rounds through it (20rounds)
As I thought it had trouble feeding the first round because of how tight they fit in the mag, it would almost go into battery but not quite
Just had to use my finger and push the bolt forward a bit to get it to go
It shot, fed, and extracted all 5 rounds perfectly though after I got the bolt home on that first round
Shooting wise it didn’t shoot any different then any other 223 rifle I have, only shot about 50 yards and my groups were around an inch which is pretty good for the way I shoot lol
I think it just needs to be broke in a bit and the issue with the first round will go away
So far I think it’s pretty good :)

If you loaded 4 rounds in the mag would it seat then without pushing the bolt forward ? I've found over the years some mags are so tight fit for the round count the bolt hangs up on it.
