Crusader arms backland

I think the rifle in the video is a regular BH while the ones I have are Elites and I think from some comments on this thread that it has some parts upgrades.

I also had some teething issues with the first rifle, as I documented here.

There is no reason to believe that the concerns he raised in the video are unwarranted. That said, it's summer and my BH rifles are about to get a work out- in a couple of months they will both have at least 3000 rounds through them. I'll be sure to report on how they manage.

I can’t wait for you to put them through the ringer. If they are somehow reliable now, I want one!

I watched all three videos and his is a regular BH. I'm not sure if you meant your Elites had upgraded parts or his had some. From what I gathered, the rifle in the video has the "gen 2" bolt and possibly an upgraded recoil spring. Outside of that, stock.

Crusader teased on their Instagram a while back they have a 308/x51 rifle in the works (ie; not the Crux, anymore) and I'm hoping whenever they show it off and release it there will be less teething issues and struggles the BLH has had for the time it's been available

It seems that the Elite has upgraded parts. I guess we could call it a Gen 2.

I don't have any experience with the standard model like shown in the video.

If history is anything to go by, wait for the reviews. I will leave it at that.

Well, they performed really well today , too.

Now they are at about 1200 rounds apiece. I'll try to update on round count as we get further into summer but it's really going to be like "okay, another case of 1000 rounds gone so let's add 500 rounds each to the round count" I am certainly not going to try to be super specific.

One thing I have said before and will say again- Magazines matter. I have a bunch of different brands of magazines and if the magazine is tight to insert then it gets pinched and the rounds don't feed as well. Gen 2 Pmags for instance are a no go. Maybe if I spent more time with a file and the mag well they will work but as I have a huge amount of mags that actually work, I don't care that much. One thing that I may have mentioned is that my old (thousands of rounds) MFT mags fit and work perfectly, but I have about 20 brand new MFT mags and they are tighter and don't feed as well. Maybe it's the tighter spring? I don't know. So yeah, just like lots of rifles- mags matter.

With some other "cool" (& non Turkish) options just hitting the Canadian market in the last week or two people have options once again which I for one am happy to see.

I do wonder how long it will be before "someone" gets upset and demands another round of bans but if that comes the original Backland is the most likely to survive with its semi traditional looks (which I like).

Once its frt comes through, I’m sure the backland will quietly go the way of the crypto and be classed as an AR variant.
No fanfare, no widescale ban, no roundup, no buyback. Just tossed on the ban pile.

The other offerings with an FRT may actually survive longer..

Got mine back from Crusader
Hopefully it’s more reliable now
I see they changed the bolt carrier group as it’s a different color and they must have put the stiffer spring in as it’s harder to charge it now
They also changed the lower assembly for some reason, I have a different serial number then before
The trigger is way stiffer too now I noticed
I’ll try it out soon and see if it is improved or not

Holy. They swapped a good few parts.

The changes sure don't align with my idea of improvements but if it makes it more reliable thats something.

Even the semi stuff with an FRT don't have good odds.

Today was BANG click. Tried different magazine. Nope. Put one round in mag and the bolt didn’t lock back. Okay, gas problem.

Sure enough the gas key had worked itself loose. I mentioned earlier in this thread that the other rifle had the same problem. It looks like whomever staked the gas key screws on was using a tiny toy hammer.

I didn’t have the gear to stake them with me but I had red loctite and after applying some of that and tightening up the screws all ran well.

I ran about thirty rounds through mine out in the back yard re sighting in the green dot and it fed and cycles everything good but it has an unusual issue now
Every once in a while I will get blasted with powder residue in the face like some 9mm semis used to do to me (I shoot lefty)
The weird thing is when it does it a bunch of smoke comes out the rear charging handle slot lol
Crusader or should I say Spectre put a ton of grease in the charging handle groove in the reciever and all over the bolt sides
My plan was to run it as is for a while to let it break in some before cleaning it and re oiling/greasing it
Just need to figure out what’s happening with this intermittent blowback

What ammo is it ? Do any of the brsss have pierced primers ?

Yes, it might be excessive lube. I’ve had that happen with several firearms after getting overzealous with lube although it’s usually just the first couple of rounds.

I used federal 556 green tip and federal bulk 223
Tried some of my reloads too and there was no difference
No pierced primers although there was a couple that looked like they were not hit very hard and had some cratering
Rest of the primers looked good
I’m prob gonna shoot another 30 or 40 rounds then give it a good cleaning
