Crusader Arms Crypto

I think I'll skip the Elcan hence the ish. I don't mind them but since I changed over to a Leopold MRT for service rifle I don't think I want to go back.

Thanks for the assistance. I assume since the original A1/A2 style had a 20" barrel, a new barrel will be required for this build eh? I assume the handguard and triangular front sight/gas block won't fit on the 18.6" barrel that comes on the Crypto?
I'm completely new to building modern rifles as most of my stuff is old surplus which comes in much less variety and configurations than the new gear
If you want to reuse the factory barrel and still get the retro look a "dissipator" style build might interest you.

Well that might just work. Still do the classic fixed stock, carry handle, and dissipator style handguard. Would you happen to know what size sight/gas block I would need for the style of barrel coming standard on the crypto? Thanks eh

The purple is so hilarious will see how mine looks when I get it. Looks nicely machined in all honestly I see no issue there and I come from an engineering background.

How has it performed so far? Seems like very little could go wrong when the bolt carrier and bolt + gas system + buffer tube and spring are all AR15.
lol

Receiver set arrived today, not purple and overall it looks good but some of the machining marks at either end of the ejection port and by the bolt catch pin hole are excessive. It shouldn't affect function but for $1000 I would think they should be able to do better. On the bright side it won't matter much if I make some marks putting it together seeing as the finish is not perfect to start with. Can't say I remember any of the AR15 receivers I've built having marks on them like these.

I do not know the size of the barrel but usually it will be slightly smaller than the gas journal which is fine if your FSB is held on with set screws.

Got mine built today and the crypto mags dont lock into place. Going to bustard it later on but for time being any help would be great. Thanks

Well, I guess I better decide what I want to do because I had a Crypto follow me home yesterday from Fort MacLeod.... Do I keep it stock, add bits, bobs, and doodads, or do I try to track down enough stuff to make it look 1970's-esque?

I've been watching the EE for weeks and surfing most vendors websites but haven't had luck yet. Maybe I'm being too picky in hoping I'll find more than one part at each store to try to offset some pretty outrageous at times shipping costs

I say just shoot the thing. Spend the money on ammo.

Hardly a marketing push. Pretty sure I said I didn’t like Crusader given their ####ty customer service/QC track record. Legitimately curious as to whether a proprietary magazine system is even worthwhile investing in or whether money is better spent on existing platforms.
great reply, not sure what the op Gary was smokin

Anyone else notice the machining of the receivers. My mag release never worked because it was too tight and wouldnt hold the mags. After some light drelem/sanding it works good now. Can even sand the side of the mag release if you want.
