Crusader Arms Crypto

Here is some more pics of my "M16"

I absolutely cannot believe how much work (or money!) you put into machining those receivers.... the case deflector, the fence around the mag release, the trigger guard, the front of the magwell... crazy. Very cool.

Only detail I think you should have done differently, for authenticity, would have been to also engrave 'AUTO' on the receiver and installed a 3-position safety/selector

Is it possible to build out the crypto to fire 9MM or 45ACP?

I was checking builds in the USA and it looks like they make receivers and parts to convert rifles to fire pistol ammo.

I would love to build one out to shoot 45ACP

But don't know if I can put a different receiver on it or if I could even get the parts together to shoot the pistol ammo in Canada.

Getting a pistol caliber receiver is a non starter 1) they’re more than likely going to be ar15 pattern and are currently prohibited and 2) the crypto has a proprietary receiver that makes it a non ar15 variant and won’t interface with a ar15 upper receiver.

You could look at getting a 9mm or 45acp barrel and bolt and a mag well conversion kit that would need to be fitted into the Crypto mag well. Keep in mind that you would need a barrel with a length greater than 470mm to keep it non restricted otherwise you’ll need to get it verified and request a frt entry and a registration certificate. There’s also no guarantee that the rcmp won’t classify it as prohibited instead of restricted if you use a shorter barrel.

Yeesh, sounds like more work then it's worth.

I was hoping to find something like the 22LR kit that's all drop in.

Well, you would essentially be assembling an AR9 inside the Crypto receiver. You would need a new barrel and extension, an AR9 bolt/carrier assembly, an AR carbine buffer and spring and then you would run the Mean Arms 9mm mag conversions or their ExoMag that runs in 5.56 AR magwells. No guarantee it is reliable in the end, but it might work OK as it certainly has been done with AR's.

I think you would also have to sort out an ejector set up, but I am not positive on that.

Well that's unfortunate.

They make it seem so easy down in the USA to do the swaps.

Can you post a video or link to something that shows an easy swap from 5.56 gas piston or DI to 9mm blowback? The list I gave you is basically just a field strip and parts swap except for the barrel change, which any conversion will need to do.

He might be seeing complete uppers in 9mm that just go onto an AR lower and a magwell adapter.

It’s a lot quicker just to push out two pins and put on a complete upper than unmounting a handguard removing the gas tube, gas block, barrel nut etc and you don’t need any specialized tools or a vise.

I thought about doing the AUTO as well, maybe on a future build

Took it out today, it ran great

I wouldn’t recommend engrave the word full auto on the lower as it’ll make it to be considered a full auto prohib. Before you get angry it has already happened to a few CGN’ers who bought AR lowers in which the factory had engraved full auto and a fake 3rd pin, with zero capacity to do so

That's exactly it

They sell uppers fully ready to go. Couple pins and it's a quick swap.

If that's the case then you could just assemble a second Crypto upper in 9mm blowback and swap it onto a lower the same as with an AR. It's a bit more nuisance to change uppers on the Crypto, but it's not the end of the world.

You just have to wait until separate Crypto upper receivers are available.

You find it a bit less handy to put together eh? I'm the opposite, I almost like it more than the OG. It's strength and longevity however, only time will tell. I can see why these are flying off the shelves...

I don't have one, just going by what others have mentioned. If you're happy with that part, great. That's one less thing to deal with on an upper swap.

Has anybody tried putting the mantis laser trainer BCG in their crypto? Does it work with the sliding mechanism instead of the pivot as seen in all mantis videos ?
