Crusader Arms Crypto

From True North Arms, ordered 25 Sep 2024, arrival today, 01 Oct 2024. As far as I can see, the purple has gone a bit, the lower still has some hints of it, but it is almost invisible to the naked eye. Camera picks it up however. Got two nice gift, a mag keychain and a lever action lock (I don't even have one)

I would take a bold person to lie convincingly if asked by the police. One thing for a person to lie to the police. Expecting other PAL holders to do the same might be a bit of a stretch.
So in that case it makes zero difference if he buys it from a dealer or second hand.

Years ago, FN FAL rifles were being widely distributed. A friend (with business license) and I bought six, kept the best two, sold the others to recoup our costs. FN FALs became prohibited. These rifles were brought in by a small number of importers. I wondered if the RCMP would start with the importers' records, move along to dealers and thence to customers. Didn't happen. It all depends if there is motivation to devote the time and effort to tracing firearms reclassified as prohibited. With our current government, who knows?
As far as I am concerned one of these rifles might be an ideal replacement for a quarantined AR. Great use for the parts. Get one now, enjoy it, hope the government changes.

I have one and I enjoy it.

Mine is the receiver set, assembling everything myself

I guess I will order the adjustable dust cover as well. Might get the rear takedown pins as well just in case, are they the extended ones?
IMG_4334.pngthese are the pins I bought afterwards.

It might be an idea to mention whether a rifle was factory or assembled from parts.
Mine was a receiver set, built by myself using Aero Precision, Strike Industries and BCM parts.

I'd love to have a good look at his. No one else has reported this sort of problem.
There are only so many reasons that result in a rifle with this pattern of mechanism not working.
Should be possible to diagnose and remedy.
He seems to believe the proprietary mags are what is causing the jam up. I've had a look at it and there's really nothing I could do on the spot to remedy it.

I initially had high hopes in this rifle, given the action type's pedigree.

It's a shame to see that this particular one is a jamomatic out of the box. Surely, he can't be the only one having issues.

Though, I have a feeling it would run better on stanag mags.

Might help you crowdsource a solution if you could provide photos or describe the stoppage - failure to feed, failure to extract, stovepipe, etc. etc.

Can you chamber and fire individual rounds - just one round in the magazine at a time?

I had went over the types of stoppages in an earlier comment on here. Basically all the ways it could jam.

Yes to chambering indiv rounds. It's gotta be the mag. My friend is against advice on magwell modding, it seems.

Cant find any Crusader products on their website anymore

Am I crazy or missing something? I bought a receiver set and when installing the dust cover it won't close. I look at the upper and notice there simply is no cut on the upper for the dust cover detente to clip into. Did Crusader just straight up forget to make that cut for my receiver or am I missing something?
I had a similar issue, you can see the AR has a divit on the inside and the Crypto put it on the outside so it doesn't catch the detent properly, not sure how they missed that! Might be able to take a small round file to the inside to make a divet...I haven't tried to yet. If you push it closed hard it will close. Also I haven't test fired yet, just assembled, I did notice if you bump the stock the bolt hold releases easy.

I'm currently developing and working on a 10rd crossmag style magazine that will fit the crypto and other guns that accept AR pattern mags. I need testers although as I don't have a crypto and the only close person i know that has one is roughly 2-3hrs away from me and our schedules never align. If all goes to plan and stays on track as it is then I should have stainless steel 5 and 10rd mags that fit the crypto for less than the price of stanag or ar pattern magazines in ss early 2025.
Has anyone got there propriety crypto mags to run reliably? If not then I suspect it to be some type of error regarding the magazine body as its slimmer making it so there is less space for the follower and loaded rounds. A stiffer spring could remedy it all. Hopefully I can find someone local or trusted to figure this all out and provide something useful to the dying Canadian market.
