Hey Felllas,
I just ppicked up my new CZ 600 Trail from a non-site sponsor in Red Deer, AB. This particular dealer got in a shipment of 10x 5.56mm Trail rifles and all were sold within an hour of an e-mailed announcement. I was fortunate enough to be on my computer when that e-mail came in, and was able to act upon it immediately. Good thing that I did, because by the time I pulled the pin there were only 5 left in stock. To say that the CZ 600 Trail is a hot commodity right now is perhaps a gross understatement! Interesting, considering the CZ Trail really doesn't seem to have much of a purpose beyond casual backpacking/plinking afield and perhaps (local regulations permitting), some light hunting. Still, they are selling like hotcakes whenever they appear in still limited numbers.
The rifle appears and feels to be well-built with a fairly smooth bolt-throw. Nothing like Tikka smooth, but reasonable and with zero binding, whhich is key for my personal tastes. Subject to confirmation in the field, I think that the Eotech Vudu 1-10x LPVO is going to be a good fit on the CZ Trail. Lightweight and compact, it offers both quick, short-range targetting akin to a Red Dot, as well as reasonably long-range precision sighting based on a "Christmas Tree" reticle. The Trail happily accepts both metal and synthetic STANAG AR15 magazines, both of which readily drop free. I am going with the Mission First Tactcial (MFT) 10-round "Pistol" magazine to feed my 5.56mm Trail.
Zeroing and first groupings will occur tomorrow if all goes according to plan. I have read that the Trail is a bit of a slow beginner with initial group sizes in excess of MOA. Once it settles down however, sub-MOA is the norm with quality match ammo.
My longer term plan is to have this rifle rebarrelled in .300 Blk, whidh I think would be the perfect calibre for such a handy little bolt-gun, giving it some greater hunting punch out to 300m or so. I spoke with the head Armourer at the Red Deer store I was attending, and he seemed to think that it was readily do-able despite the locking lugs being located in the Barrel itself....
Public Service Announcement - Canadian CZ 600 Trails are shipping from the Czech Republic with M15 x 1 Metric Muzzle Threads, NOT 1/2 x 28. Muzzle devices such as the B+T APC 223 2-Port Brake (which I happened to have on-hand) fit and function perfrectly on the CZ 600 Trail riflesl
