CZ 75 or Glock 17 for home defense?

No doubt if a person enters my house unlawfully, even if the person is 4'1" inch tall and weighs 72 lbs, that person has evil intent, will be shouting "I'm going to kill everyone in the house," wearing a t-shirt that says "I love Charles Manson" and frothing at the month. At least, that's my story after I pull the Charles Manson t-shirt on the still warm corps.

I'm a fan of CZ75, but for self-defense or any other, serious application I would recommend Glock 19.
Since You have CCW permit, You may end up carrying and G19 is so much easier to conceal than G17.
Many people believe it's also more ergonomic...including myself.
Good luck and one more thing:
order a pistol with good sights - preferably Trijicon set.

Yes, I am in North Carolina and have a Concealed Carry, too. I balked for many, many, months about getting the concealed carry, but now that I have it, I am very glad I jumped through the hoops to get it.

The handguns will be secured downstairs, I'm not sure how yet, but it will be in a secure fashion. I have teenagers still at home, and lots of company due to the teenagers, so weapon storage/security is very important.

I highly recommend that you look into the Fort Knox pistol and personal safes. $239 or $249 depending on the model + shipping. Really can't be beat for the high quality, great safety and the mechanical push button lock can't be picked.

G17 its what have in my nightstand safe.
I train with this gun. I know the feel of it, I am intimately familiar and comfortable with it. And I know its reliable. The fewer moving parts I have to manipulate in a high stress situation the better.

Just tap rack boom.

In case of the cz. I've not had much trigger time behind it so I can't say. But I suppose anybody who takes the time and discipline to train and maintain their gun, in any model can use it as their home defense.

I have the cz p0-7 duty in 9mm. Awesome shooting gun. Its aDA/SA omega trigger and the single action is about 2lbs. Low recoil and very comfy to hold. IJavent used a g17 or 19 but I hear great things also.
 
Go and handle both in a store, and preferably put rounds through both on a range. Both are going to be very reliable, and the decision ultimately boils down to your own personal preferences on the ergonomics, and striker-fired action of the Glock vs. DA/SA of the CZ-75.
 
glock or any striker fired of your liking for simplicity, in a stressful moment you want to be dealing with the safest + easiest mechanism, hence, the double action, no safety, no hammer, seems a better idea to me...
It comes down to whichever you are more proficient with, if you suck with both, suck less, go to the range and practice.
 
^^ The Glock is an SA only, the CZ is a DA/SA...

After owning a Glock 17 and 21 and an M&P 9mm... I prefer my CZ 75 for strictly shooting. But, I would have to seriously think about which one id want for home defence. Accuracy isnt as much of a consideration in a home defence situation IMO as your likely shooting 5-7 yards... VS a competition where you could be shooting 10-15. Im sure many will disagree but I can shoot really accurately at 5-7 yards with any of the above... so any of them would be fine in my home. But if i stretch it out to 10+ yards Im WAY better with the CZ.

I would think the easiest to get ready to go would be the CZ... its splitting hairs really but the CZ being DA you can simply load and pull... No round in the chamber till you want to shoot has to be safer than a round in the chamber walking around your house at night, nervous. Again, not a huge issue given the circumstances but if you want to talk about safety, a DA has to be safer.
 
Both are less than ideal choices. I hate to quote Biden, but buy a shotgun.

Virtually any long gun is more ideal than any pistol.

Nothing wrong with a pistol for home defense in the hands of someone who is trained. However, think about the stress caused by having to defend your home against invaders, will you miss? There have been reports of police and suspects unloading the entire magazine from a pistol at each other and nobody gets hit!

I know how to use a pistol, and have professional training, however I keep my trusty shotgun because no matter how bad things get, 8, 000 buck is basically 8 shots per round with a shotgun of 9mm projectiles, and the chance I hit my target is greater :)

If I had to choose a pistol, my trusty gen 2 Glock 17 that I carried for years would be my choice :)
 
The easier the pistol is to use, the better it is for self defense. At zero dark thirty, when you wake up to the reality that someone is in your home, or attempting to get into your home, an easy to use pistol with a good, bright flashlight attached and a trigger that requires a conscious effort to shoot, is your best bet. I'd go with what the cops use, Glock. I'm not aware of any North American PD that uses the CZ - not that they aren't great pistols, they just aren't as good as a weapon. Oh yes, and get a decent set of sights on your Glock - the factory ones suck.

But then you read about say.. The 1986 Miami shoot out where those baddies who were high on only adrenaline took numerous 00 buck, even in the face and still kept shooting. Scary stuff.
