CZ Trail 600 - in 7.62x39 or .223?

I just bought a trail in 7.62x39. I havnt shot it yet, but I added a magpul pic rail so I could attach a foregrip. The screws were touching the barrel from the magpul pic rail. It was as easy as grinding down the screws a bit and now it's fine. I agree we should have to do that and it's an unnecessary extra step. I have no other complaints about the gun.

Shouldn't*

I still want to figure out a way to have the magpul backup sights on as well as a scope. Maybe get a new scope. I'll need to do some more research.

Hi Can-Down, yes made another thread here with info on the various stock/cheek riser options that I’ve tried.

https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/threads/cz-600-trail-stock-options.2564287/

I have another folding buffer tube adapter inbound which hopefully will provide enough clearance to fold flat. Will update when that arrives.

I didn’t mind the OEM stock at all in terms of hold and stability. The ‘wobble’ is easily compensated for with a solid hold and a little practice.

My main reasons for switching were to provide a better cheek weld, allow it to be fully ambi for left handed shooters, and provide a more secure rear sling mount.
The 1913 rail also allows for many more stock options/styles, and the whole ensemble is a few ounces lighter than the OEM stock.
Thanks Morp, the sliding collapsible stocks with rails on each side look pretty cool and they do collapse nice but it definitely comes at the cost of a traditional cheek weld and over all solid feel.

you option is going to be a high see through mount, offset Mbus sites, or use a long eye relief scope...

the first option is going to suck.... the second is mostly for looks as the site will be so far off the bore axis they will only work at 1 set range and will make your rifle hold garbage... A long eye relief scope could be cowitnessed with Mbus...

option 4: ring ounted reddot off the scope top

Option 5: scope with built in Mbus ...Elcan/ Acog

I plan on pulling the Burris RT -15 off mine to put an elcan on it... 4x is more then enough for to make hits at ranges im shouting at with this gun.

? it has a cheek plate... I get a good cheek weld on it.
In general these types of stocks are not known for a great cheek weld, same goes for an under folder on an AK.

The wide profile of the arms on the outside makes it harder then a more traditional center line stock.

That doesn't mean it can't be done as you point out.

I have heard many people say that the cheek pad works if the stock is extended to the right length for the users unique measurements.... it's a compromise situation that comes with the design.

Update - ended up getting a CZ 600 Alpha in 7.62x39. I have it paired with a Viper PST 6-24x50 scope

I did shoulder the Trail while in store. I like the look and I like the weight (weight seemed better than the Alpha, but the Alpha called my name - and so did the cheaper price tag), but I wasn't able to consistently operate that thin wire stock. It was a lot more solid than I thought - I may still pick it up next week, though (the Trail that is).

I like my CZ trail in 223, its compact light weight and slings behind the back nicely. Its the gun I grab when I am not hunting and I am going for a trail walk with the wife ion our property. I am pretty much always rifled up at the farm when I leave the house and not working. Its the gun ready to rock n roll at a moment's notice. It will nail skunks and wood chucks with no issue out to 100 yards. Is it a 200+ yard cote sniper, no, but that is not its purpose at least not for me.

That long rail on the Trail would be so easy to have a set of factory oe sights integrated so it still looked sleek
Folding b/u sights can be added but ...

Just to say I have a Ruger Ranch in x39 and the action runs a little stiff, only have a couple hundred rounds thru it. My club range is only 175 yds and I can get sub-MOA with most ammo. I have no probs with Chi-MS and also have shot Barnaul SP, Barn FMJ, S&B FMJ, NOR-WHITE FMJ, PPU FMJ, WIN SP. All ran fine, using the Ruger mags.

Well, I think found my new more favourite local firearm retailer, a very, very small outfit, pretty much run by the owner with in person visits by appointment only (it's a small little unit in an otherwise industrial area), but my oh my are the prices great and she goes above and beyond to get my order ready. I bought my second firearm from them in less than a week.

She was out of the 600 Trails but was able to go to her supplier and grab me what I was looking for, a 600 Plus Trail (basically Gen 2 Trail), at a superb price and I picked it up this afternoon.

The Trail at the very least came with a printed manual, as opposed to the Alpha I picked up a couple of weeks ago that relied on an online manual (stupid, stupid, stupid). It also had stickers that the Alpha did not have (I am a sucker for stickers)

Interestingly, when I shouldered the original Trail at another store, there was some wobble on the shouldered wire stock. It was pretty solid when I shouldered this 600+ / G2 one - maybe it was all in my head or I was wearing a thicker coat, who knows...

Came with a CZ 10 round magazine pinned to 5. The bolt is the same goofy one as my Alpha - one had to lock it in with a turn using the tool before it could be inserted. At least with the printed manual, it had a colour pictorial how to align it - I don't recall seeing this in the Alpha manual.

I learned my lesson with the dry bolt on the Alpha so I G96ed the dickens out of that bolt and did a general gun cleaning/oiling.

Still trying to figure out what kind of optic to put on it - red dot, LPVO, traditional scope? Red dot doesn't make much sense given this is a bolt action and I should be able to go longer distances. I may move something off another gun to put on this or pick up something else in the next few days.

Will report back after taking this new addition to my club on Sunday afternoon.

Your on a roll gazelle!
I seem to recall someone saying their might have been some small improvements with the stock on the newer plus trails.

Don't leave us hanging.... how much?

A little over $1400 all in. Remember, this is the Gen 2 (600+), not the regular one. Some retailers are having it as $1599.99 plus tax. Some have it discounted at $1399.99 plus tax. I pretty much got better pricing as I bought something from them last week (also at a better price than anywhere else). I am glad there is somewhere cheaper than Tenda.

I am very glad I bought this one instead of the original. I know sometimes subsequent generations aren't better but I already like the stock better. Plus did I mention I got a great deal on it?

I got great satisfaction buying it, completing another transaction with them, since there some threads with unsubstantiated claims that the company may not even be real. Of course the people say that never visited the place nor talked with the owner. Not only did I talk with the owner on the phone, made an appointment to go into the storefront (which really is just a unit with a warehouse in an industrial area), both products I bought were new, retail packaged, complete with all accessories, in mint condition (being new) and I met the owner at the store and bought it in person both times.

It is a one person operation, so doing up the invoice/receipt comes a bit later. I am fine with that.

I suspect I will get more better pricing the more I buy - but with a wedding in less than 2 months, my wallet is running dry. I am selling my old sports cards and toy and comic collections as well as an assortment of ammo I don't shoot and some old guns to fund this last foray into gunnie shopping spree madness.

It is a very small outfit, not your typical gun store like Tenda or FOC or Al Flaherty's, but for a one person outfit, she keeps her overhead small, and end customers get the savings. She has some helpers an an gunsmith who visits every 2 weeks to work on anything needed. Believe me, I am very critical of businesses, but I am also critical of reading rumours and such - would rather experience dealing with a retailer myself rather than going by hearsay.

Her (Alla) and her company (Canfirearm) will be at the Toronto Sportsmen's Show this coming weekend.

(and no, I am not affiliated with them in any way other than being a repeat customer)

I have a gen1 .223 and I liked it in the beginning but that stock wobble really got to me over time. I bought a Tikka stainless .223 and I’ll probably keep the Trail in the safe. Glad to hear they may have tightened up the wobble on the + model.

Thanks for filling in the blanks.... :)
That's a fair price for the newer model, the old ones are or maybe were lately only selling for a few hundred less then that.

For context...G4C has original 600 Trail for $1199.99 + tax ($1400.07 Total in Ontario)
https://g4cgunstore.com/product/cz-600-trail-223-rem-16-1-2-28-thread-black/

G4C has the Trail 600 Plus for $1599.99 + tax ($1807.98 Total in Ontario)
https://g4cgunstore.com/product/cz-600-trail-223-rem-16-m15x1-thread-fde/

Other retailers have similar prices

So the fact that I paid a little over $1400 for the 600 Plus Trail is more than a good deal, but that was her pricing to me - the website I think had it for $1388.88 plus tax ($1569.43 total in Ontario).

I should mention, though, that just like most small businesses, pricing will be different depending on various factors. You do repeat business, you will get a better price...so bear in mind that what I paid may not be what a new customer may pay. I know in my personal business, you reward regular customers with better pricing - the world has been like that since the beginning of time.

So don't go in calling demanding they get such and such price. There is some negotiation, repeat customer and other dynamics in play. I think the better deals are likely the ones in person and walk in.

I paid a similar price for my 600+ a few months ago from an online retailer as a first time customer. Including taxes and shipping.

You can find a brand new one from a retailer for $1400 on GP right now taxes in. Possibly with shipping included.

The retailers will still be making their margins at that purchase price - don’t you worry!
Using the large site sponsor retailers as a benchmark for pricing is easy, but not generally representative of the best deal available.

That said, if youre happy with the rifle and the price paid then that’s all that counts 👍
