DAC 394 (Sig 228 Clone) Kit

Wow! Novega! I had heard of this happening, but hadn't seen it.

If anyone gets a line on some solid pins let me know. I've been too busy to do the final fit and finish on the DAC, but I'll get to it. Wife and I are looking for our first house, so spare time is at a premium right now.

Hope Dlask has some spare parts for ya, but call them, they don't get their E-Mail. lol

Been doing some more research on the breech block pin.... looks like it's a fairly well known fault with these kits. Found this on homegunsmith.com

DON'T USE THE DLASK Breechblock Roll Pins. Either get replacement pins from SIG or use a solid drill shank or drill rod.

The roll pins that DLASK ships are too brittle and will crack. William (Tanneryshop) and I reported this to DLASK about 2 yrs ago after the pins failed in my P228, causing the breechblock to break into 2 pieces. DLASK acknowledged the pins were hardened incorrectly and led us to believe that they were going to include a warning with the parts kit, or remove the part from the kit entirely.

For the cost of a 50 cent drill bit, replace it.

Yeah I saw that but figured since it was an older post, Dlask had probably upgraded/replaced the pins by now... guess not. Then again it could just be a simple case of mechanical failure? maybe I got a set of old pins? maybe I got a dud?

I mean it was a $200 gun, so I really didn't expect too much but I think the failure came a bit early in its lifecycle. Funny thing was that I had just cleaned and lubed the gun yesterday morning and I remember looking at the breechblock and pins, they were fine and the breechblock was firmly in place. One minute they're fine and the next thing you know, your breechblock is snapped.

I sent an email but I'm going to give them a call next week and see what happens. Dlask seems like a pretty customer friendly business, maybe they'll have some ideas on the best way to fix this issue.

The least they can do is give me new pins...sheesh :p

Replacement official SIG pins look to be only a couple bucks each so I may go that route if I can get them easily enough. I e-mailed a couple places about them so I'll let you know what I find out.

Your issue does seem to be the very same problem in a lot of the other posts I've read. (same outcome too)

the barrel wouldn't lock into the slide. the hole was too short. i filed the slide till the barrel would go into the hole.

i cut one coil off the spring, now i can install the barrel onto the slide

that plastic hammer stop is the wrong shape or the hole is wrong or both. i fit the dam thing in. hammer could not install rearward enough. plastic was blocking it. i figure i better ####-up the plastic than the frame. shaped it till the hammer installed. install with the little hammer return spring, now the spring jams the hammer. took it all apart for the 40th time. shaped the bottom of the hammer in just the spring side. now i have it all together.

i had the trigger bar in and won't engage the hammer for double action. the ramp is the wrong shape like the other post. plus the trigger won't release and i can't get the hammer spring in the back strap.

i need a break. 5 hours of this and now i am burnt out. tomorrow is another day (with pic's)

I can't picture what you mean here ....... the barrel physically wouldn't sit in the slide ??

I had to shorten my recoil spring by 1 1/2 coils to allow the slide to come back far enough to engage the slide locking lever ......

I think Dlask drilled the hammer stop pin hole too close to the hammer pivot.... I removed material from both the hammer and the plastic hammer stop. I posted some pics of it in this thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=390844 You might find that the hammer spring strut contacts the little spur on the plastic hammer stop as well .....

Looking forward to your pics !

got double action going with the trigger bar from my 226.

had to use the safety from my 226 to get the single action working.

had to use the decocker from the 226 for that too.

now it cocks and clicks. still can't install the slide. the bullet ramp on the barrel hits the locking insert. the insert is tall then my 226, and the barrel ramp is longer by .5mm. should i file the ramp down?

my slide only came with cheap roll pins (with wood in it). you can see the difference in the picture

i'm going to be ordering alot of SIG parts to get this pig running.

trigger bar
decocker
safety
hammer stop
grips & screws
short trigger :)
and a few slide pins!!

So the two question I have are:

1.) My kit came with one pin installed in the breach/slide and two more pins loose. The small inner and outer. If I replace the single pin that came installed that I used , with the two, new, loose pins (offset by 180) that came loose with the kit, will I be okay.

2.) I read about using a piece of drill bit for a pin. Is this a better option?

Sorry to hear about you bad luck Novega. :(

Hopefully, Dlask will make things right.

1- that is just a roll pin. get rid of it. the two that comes in the bag look like crap roll pins too. i am not trusting them. ordering two sig ones. remember to install them with the splits pointing in line of motion and 180 apart (holes horizontal)

2- i feel that the drill rod will be too brittle for the job.

Got my slide /frame filed & fitted,it was rubbing inside the frame on the front of the slide. Got the rest together in about 2 hrs. The takedown hole needs cleaning up & the sear barely holds the hammer. The double action works but seems like it doesnt travel far enough to release the hammer. Guess i got lucky for the most part. Have to tap the grip screws & minor adjustments the its off to the range!

Wow that's great! Joe-Boy posted a post in this thread about having the sear engage a little deeper by removing a very small amount on the hammer. I would recommend a look. I'm not fancy enough to get the link into this post.

Hope the range works out real well for you!

Big thanx out to Joe- boy for lending me some tools & knowledge to help finish mine! By the way he doesnt look anything like his avatar...

One more nut has a kit in hand. A little box of jigsaw fun was delivered to my door :dancingbanana:

My slide assembly was all together and pre-fit. I had to shave down the locking block to get the slide on and now I'll have to figure out the barrel ramp/locking block clearances as the barrel wont drop free of the slide to let it cycle back... May the happy filing begin :D

Many thanks to those who have posted on there builds. I have been following along waiting for my turn. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as I get into it.

I'm sure you have read the post in this forum, but I found three things in regard to locking block/barrel. The feed ramp on the barrel is too long or the locking block is too high. You'll have to figure it out which way to go. I could see little deformations on the feed ramp and I went very slowly until I had the clearances. Joe-Boy has a post on this. Two- was the angled surfaces on the barrel lug and the locking block need file work. I was hitting flat surface on flat surface. A little work and it was angle to angle and this caused the barrel to unlock and drop down. Three - once these two things were accomplished I needed to radius the back side of the feed ramp since it was binding on the locking block and there by jambing the barrel in the hole of the slide.

Anyway, good luck and Godspeed!
