DAC 394 (Sig 228 Clone) Kit

Hmmmmm ...... Looks like several folks have gotten or are getting this kit now ...... I'm thinking build competition !!!

The photo of the build judged the best by fellow gunnutz will win the respect and admiration of his peers ... and the adoration of beautiful women ! ? ! :D:D

Its a complete pistol in a bag. All you do is the final fitting, install of parts and coating of the frame. I hope to have my kit here this week.

Well, I just ordered my kit. With all of us that have ordered these it should be interesting to see of the results. We will all have to post any problems or ideas, tips that come up during our builds....

I ordered one too. :D

At first I was a little leery about jumping onto the bandwagon because I thought it might be a little overwhelming to try to assemble this thing. I've never even seen a Sig apart, luckily there's lots of pictures on the internet.

I asked about what his interpretation of "requires some fit and finish" was and he said "if you can rebuild a carburator then you can put the gun together".
Tools required:
-Grinder/sandpaper/steel wool
- Flat Machinists File
- Tap for the grip screws

The wait begins....

Build Kit for Sig Clone

WOW !

$200 CAN

nice

I dont own a 9mm and was wondering how difficult is this to build?

Can I buy a manual telling me how to put one together ? - Ive seen the blueprints and exploded views on line but that doesnt really tell me proper assembly -

I dont mind it being difficult to build but I also dont want it to blow up in my face.

My biggest fear is actually getting my kit and putting it together , then kicking my butt for not buying two!

BTW, Anyone have a suggestion where the cheapest mags can be found to work with these? Are there Mecgar or other cheap mags out there? Real Sig mags seem expensive :(

be careful putting the nylon block with the rebound spring in. they break very easily. also if you look up the armorer tool for the mainspring, and make one yourself, you will have a much easier time installing the mainspring and housing. they suck to install without.
5hrs seems like a helluva long time.

Which tool is that? Just looking at the Sig Armorer's Kit on Brownell's to see what I have and what I can make, then what I might buy. The Armorer's kit is more than the pistol, though I know a P226 is in my future. Has been since I was a youngn'. lol

Now that my kit is on the way I have been researching some different ways to finish it. Have read many of the firearms finishing threads I am thinking of either Duracoat or doing a Parkerized finish. The question I have for those who have received their kits and know about Parkerizing.....The frame for the pistol is steel. Is it stainless? I know that stainless will not take a Park finish and I want to make sure before I order the solution that this frame will take a Park finish. If not I guess it will be Duracoat.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm leaning towards Duracoat (I have a few other projects I can use it on as well).
I'm thinking Flat Tactical Black for the Slide and something like Gunmetal Grey for the Lower.

I did a rough mockup in Photoshop below:

Here are some testimonials from a US site, for those who aren't into scouring the web for info. This is sure to make a few folks wish they'd bought 2!! :)

"The gamut of "SIG" clones out there, with the exception of one, aren't really SIG clones. They're wolves in sheep's clothing. Let me explain:
Though, outwardly, the CZ-99, the TZ-99, the Golan, et al, LOOK like SIGs, in actuality the innards are CZ-75 mechanisms.
In reality, the only true SIG clone is the DAC-394, made by Josef Dlask in Canada. It is a copy of the P228, and when I say copy, I mean COPY. I have one, and at the gunshop I purchased it from there was a P228 on the wall. I couldn't resist, so I started tinkering with the two. Every single part on the SIG will work in the DAC, and vice-versa. Though the finish on the DAC isn't up to SIG standards, the pistol looks, feels, balances, and operates identically to the 228, with the possible exception that the grips are a little too flexible, and move a bit. Additionally, at $249.00, with a money-back guarantee for Josef Dlask himself, I doubt you could go wrong.
They're imported exclusively by SOG, so I would recommed you giving that a try. SOGs # is either 1-800 844-GUNS or 1-800-944-GUNS, I can't quite remember which.
I don't work for any of the above companies, I just love my 394."

"I bought a DAC 394 back in December. It has been extremely reliable, and very accurate. My only complaints were the grips, sights and the finish is pretty thin.
I've probally got enough money into mine that I could have bought a used Sig... but I think were married to the same woman so it let me spread out the $$.
I also wanted to do some tinkering and I'd rather do it on a clone than a real Sig for the first time.
I've added Hougue grips, PT night sights, Wolff tune-up spring kit, and an action job.
It shot good out of the box, but now it feels better than a real Sig. I've put about 1500 rounds through it and the ONLY failure I've had was using the steel cased Wolf ammo."

"The DAC-394 is a great pistol. ... the grips along the rear mainspring housing are a little on the thin side and flex when gripped tightly, but the pistol seems every bit as well made if not better than a SIG."

I got a call back today from Dlask with the reference number for the transfer, I'll hop on the phone with the CFC in the morning.

I dreamed about this lastnight... got my build all planned out and everything. I'm gonna work on a photoshop mock-up tonight and hopefully have some interesting prototypes to show.
