Dispute over SMD-12 classification

I can vouch that you need two hands for this puppy!

I can also state that I ran the FRT for my gun, 2058-132, and that it does state that it has an 8.5" bbl.

Well, the 'two hands' thing was my bit, not any legal definition. But i think it will be a valid argument - while a pistol may require two hands to load, it only requires one hand to operate till it's mag is empty. This firearm requires two hands to operate properly. Ergo, it is demonstrably different than virtually every other pistol out there.

holy crap.

of the 15 pages on here there maybe is 3 pages of usefull info the rest is #####ing and moaning and petty in fighting.

to DLASK and Dave T of the NFA I have to bow to you good folks for taking point on this matter, Dlask you have shown that there is still Quality and customer service left in the canadian firearms industry.

as to the so called CGN complainents, if this is true and some of our own members have called to have this gun re-classified i have only this to say to those that did complain " ARE YOU GUYS RETARDED", we as a whole have been fighting tooth and nail to ensure that our laws do not restrict law abiding citizens and the ones that do get changed and you morons go and pull a stunt like this holy hell. these short shotguns are ideal defense tools and are "legal " under the laws as non-restricted, nothing irks my goat like that. you folks that complained about them to the CFC and RCMP need to relize we are all together in this the sooner you stop trying to sacrifice your fellow shooters to save your trusty single shot mahogny stocked 30" barreld duck gun, and start fighting as one voice against this type of tyranny the sooner we can start changing the laws to be less restrictive towards law abiding.

If you called to get something banned, they will be offering you a federal job.

Let's not offend anyone, except the idiots who drop a dime.

How about the Remington XP-100?

So I mostly have nothing good to say about Dlask after the 40mm issue....but I waited this long to chime in on this one so..........

Dlask in this case has conformed to the letter of the law, so he should be entitled to the protection of the law from those that would seek to challenge him. In this case even I would buy one of these guns at a premium price if the money were to pay legal costs of defending any attack.

Handgun-Shotgun-Rifle----WGAF.......we wouldn't have to be this creative if the laws were fair, equitable and we actually had a deterrent to criminals in this country.

Are you Jewish?

I dont think the Jewish community would appreciate your use of the kapo as a reference to this.

I was thinking about that :)

The same question was brought up regarding putting a pistol grip on an encore carbine, thereby making it effectively an encore pistol.

I think the answer there is two fold

- the 100 can be fired with one hand. It must be reloaded with two hands - but that's different. (single shot, no mag). You need two hands to load a revolver too - but you shoot it with one, and you can continue to do so till it needs to be reloaded. The shotgun needs two hands to operate, even after it it's magazine is filled. You can't shoot it till it's empty without using two hands. You can do that with a revolver, or semi-auto. Or a single shot.

- the 100 was marketed AS a pistol. Not a "Micro-rifle" or "Micro-shotgun", which is kind of what the dlask thing is.

The question which will eventually be asked is 'when does a rifle become a pistol'? At what point have you cut a rifle down to where it's now a pistol, so to speak.

Dare I bring this up but do you think the Conservatives are going to come up with an order in council making this a prohib/restricted? That would be pretty dirty if they did.

If there's a chance of an OIC then we would need to do a letter writing campaign to educate them what the purpose of this gun is and why it must not be prescribed as anything other than Non Restricted. This is really the only compact dangerous animal defence gun available because of its status as NR, and changing it to Restricted would put a lot of innocent people at risk by taking away a means to protect themselves and their families. They would have a hard time passing the red-face test if someone's kids got eaten by a bear or cougar because the gun was made resticted.

No, and we'd kill the crap out of them if they did.

I want to take this opportunity to say how cool it is that so many CGN folk have found a loophole in the law, found a manufacturer and essentially produced THE ULTIMATE bear defence firearm.

Good luck with this one.

If it can help : Sorry for the french but it happend in Quebec so...

Ok, The my friend have been killed by a bear april 17th 2003, he was working in the bush for Norbord Nexfor when a bear kill him and bring the body in the tanner (House of the bear) this is where they found the body and actually, the son of Denis, Donald, found his father dead there. The CSST open a investigation and have made some recommendation to prevent this to happend again BUT the people that work in the bush in our area are unsatisfied about thoses recommendations. That's the reason why a was buying all the small shotgun possible. The workers here saw a better option than peper spray and axe to defend themself (CSST recommandation). You should not forget that in my area, there is a LOT af native people and THEY don't hunt bear because they beleave it's a god or something like that so there is a LOT of bear in the north where i live.(And i respect their cultre)

For sure we ave ALL the man and woman that work in the bush in my area on our side, they are very VERY upset about the change in the law, they also plan to complaint to the CSST about that, if WE can have the CSST on OUR side, mabye it can help us !!!
Here is the link for the CSST report for the death of my friend Denis Chretien

RIP my friend, god bless you
