Do the Canadian Forces need a new pistol

we should just go and do what the yanks are doing,m they are going back to 45 acp but in double action

That got cancelled.

Pretty soon people will be asking for different hats with gold tassels around the brim because they are "cool" looking.
Whatever works, works. The BHP works. Hey, I'd rather use my own Glock-17 just because it's mine, but I won't feel disadvantaged with the BHP; it's far better than that U.S. issued POS, the Beretta.

The Beretta is no POS. You may not like it for whatever reason, but it's not a POS. Like the BHP, some of the mag's are getting tired for what I hear.

Exactly. But I agree with the above posts regarding training. The pistol training in the CF is sub standard. There's better training available to civilians. It is obviously not a high priority as not many soldiers have the opportunity to carry a pistol. What must change first is the mindset that a back up firearm is a good thing.

I for one would be happy to go up and work with anyone from the Forces who wants better pistol training, put me in the Barracks and feed me from the mess and I'll help anyone who wants it...

Actually, apparently the Beretta M9 has a real problem with the slide cracking from over-stress over time. I read the expected lifetime for a us army m9 is 5000 rounds. As long as they make that, the army is satisfied with them.

I think that the CF should buy some new Hi-Powers from FN with the better sights and high-profile ambi safety so that they can release the old Inglis ones onto the surplus market.

Failing that, they should upgrade the pistols they have.

No need to improve on what is a good infantry pistol.

By the way, Petrock, I'm still on rations and I cannot say the food is so bad. At least I don't rush back to my room and "prepare" KD or microwaveable beens for lunch. Guys that do that scrounge for boxed lunches when courses are funning and count themselves lucky to get one!

I've eaten in messes before and chowed down on IMP's, it didn't do me in before, probably OK now. But If it helps the CF shooters out, I'd make the sacrifice...

The Canadian Forces need many things more urgently than they need a new pistol. Many of those things we won't be able to afford to buy for them for a long time, (and some never.)

As food for thought, there is a new PWT 3 supplement that covers the use of the BHP Readied on safe for high readiness personnel.

In addition, there is a new PWT 4 that focuses on close range shooting. New total for PWT 1-4 with supporting range practices is approx 1500 rounds.

From my perspective training will always be more important than equipment. That said, there is room for improvement...
