The level of retardation that some store owners have in giving their advice baffles me. I walk into a store ready to drop $4-700 on a new .22lr pistol. now i wasn't sure on which model to buy, but i can clearly say i've done all my homework on the models and other than handling them i had cash on hand for whichever item fit my palm best.

I ended up coming to the conclusion between two that fit well. S&W mp22 and the ISSC m22
my first question was if he had personally had heard of any issues with the ISSC brand? The owners clear response of
"well you got the big mitts, buy the M&P. (the more expensive one) the issc is small. its meant for chicks you know. Is your wife going to shoot it?"
just stunned me... i put the guns down and said "Thanks anyways"

My question was clearly about the brand name. Not regarding what gender the pistol is meant for. Let alone having the knowledge to suggest what "Fits me best"

I think i'll drive 45minutes further north for the fantastic service of Ellwood Epps!

Good call.
If they are going to be an ass before you give them money, imagine how far downhill they will go once you have an item and need support.

And for the record, the Gsg 1911's are amazing.
Just saying lol

He shoulda come o attention and called you "sir" too I'll bet.

Holy cow....

Most people like to be treated with respect when walking into a place of business. Nobody should have to worry about being made fun of for what they want to spend their money on. Ive had a similar situation at a local store here in Edmonton, and I walked away with all my money.

:agree: Good choice on your part to move on. That guy needs a lesson in civility.

Seems pretty thin skinned to me. Who cares what some minimum wage prick in a gun store thinks? If you like it then man up and buy it, simple.

??? Ya that is just dumb advice.

Always vote with your wallet.

I would have done the same thing, op.

So, not to be rude, are you ###. Do you have a husband instead?

I am just wondering because I always find small talk like that, while the owner sounds a bit uncouth, I am not sure he was trying to call you manly as a insult.

from what I understand, the store owner is just plain ###ist, in a redneck'y sense of the term, ie. small caliber are for small handed girls only.

Be sure to call the manager within a few days thou, and let him know why you have taken your business elsewhere.
If he isn't the owner, its possible the real owner has no idea he has a #### running the place, and deserves to know.
Make sure you dont come off as wanting anything tho, just to ensure it doesnt turn anyone else off the sport.

I beleive the OP should do what is right for him and if that means walking then that is what he should do.

Now about going to Epps, I am not sure that is going to be a better deal. With all the posts on this forum about bad service from there, you just may be going from the frying pan to the fire.

Gunshop employees are often full of it. You said you did all your research but then you made the mistake of asking buddy his opinion.
Usually for most of us depending on where we live there is only one or a few shops to choose from for local service. If you are lucky you have a good shop nearby. Fortunately it's not hard to shop online today so the days of only dealing with the local goof are pretty much over.
That said people walking into a gun store need to be prepared for the typical service and opinions found within. It's not what most are used to today and the concept that t"he customer is always right" certainly does not apply. Once you adjust your own attitude and stand your ground you will be fine. In fact you will be better then fine because you will have learned that sometimes in life you will meet ignorant jerks and there is really no reason to get insulted by someone else's personality defect. If you are so offended that you can't do business with them you should at least tell them that to their face before leaving to vent online other wise nothing will change.

Epps is usually packed with people... Hard to actually get someoneto help you. But more important, they are not willing to deal because they just take on way too much inventory. But you do find a steal on their site from time to time. Over all is a hit or miss depending on how busy it is and if the person helping you is in a good mood.
