Exciting new SKS Picatinny Scope rail

I could be wrong but I had the impression that using a rail attached to the stock does not hold zero very well. Plus it is way to far up for my liking.

Exactly wolfslayer, altho I don't mind a forward location for a red dot (better peripheral view) the handguard is probably not steady enough to hold zero .

as iron sites the rail is only decent I think with a dot or anything else it will be comparable to none, but you definitely need a scope that sits low for comfort reasons

Mine is on the way and I plan on mounting it to my Chinese SKS with the side folding ATI stock. I will post my results when complete.

You may need to modify the plastic ATI stock to accept the rail. Many aftermarket stocks ride higher on the SKS action than the standard wood stock.

This is a close up of an old ATI Dragonov stock, showing the milled out plastic area necessary to accomodate the rail. Measurement is 7mm by 19mm ....

OK so I am trying to install this rail that came with no instructions and i can't get the rear sight pin to come out so I can remove the sight! WTF is there no instructions? For a $129 scope rail you would expect some information!

I put 100 rounds through my SKS with this rail and a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33mm scope. No issues at all and the shell deflected of the rail perfectly without one touching my scope.

Glad you got your issues sorted ...

STOP!

The rear sight is NOT held in with a pin. It looks like a pin, but it is not.

Do a search on youtube to find an instructional video. It's easy to remove the rear sight if you understand the shape of it, and the technique for taking it off. (You basically press down and pull back)

In fact some sks's DO have a pin that needs to be removed first. I wish I had a picture to show you but when your pushing down on the rear sight look in those 2 holes on the sides if there is a little pin hitting then it must be removed first otherwise continue with removal.

Yeah that's the same problem I had. After playing around for 2 hours I ended up punching the centre pin out enough to grind about 1/16 off. I then tapped it back into place and I was able to remove the sight.

My other problem was due to no instructions ( lousy if you ask me ) I put the supplied pin into the new rail then I tried to mount it. I discovered you need to install the rail, line up the holes and then tap in the pin. this really pi$$ed me off as I spent about 30 min getting the pin back out and this could have been avoided with instructions.

Agreed very poor instructions. I truely feel I paid $130 for something that is worth about $50-$65.

I am curious to know what advantage ppl feel steel would make? Stiffness play little role in zero, and there is very little stress on the part.
