These guns are very sensitive to cartridge overall length. I cant get the MFS .308 ammo to shoot in my auto ordnance c5 due to the cartridge overall length being to short for the extractor to grab the cartridge from the belt and feed it into the chamber. S and B corrosive .308 surplus works fine as do most other rounds.

Could you apply a shim to the front guide?

Could possibly shim it. I hope the norinco surplus work in my C5 as I have a few cases of it I havent tried yet.

Dont know how to inbed videos. Click the images to play video:

And here is a longer video of us running the 1919a4. Had to increase the headspace to Zero + 2... It was running fine at zero plus 1, but it was way colder today than the last range trip!

My mother in law is almost 79 & she kept shooting the gun until we ran out of ammo! It was FUN!

The Norinco will work fine. ;)

I have never tried the MFS .308 though, so I am not sure if it is sized to Nato specs. What you could do is try and find a second C5 front cart. guide/stop and modify the piece of spring steel so it sticks out just abit more, in the area the bullet tip will locate, for the MFS brand ammo. You will then have to switch the cart. stop depending on what brand ammo you use.

Hey Beezer, what was the headspace set at when running Norinco 7.62x51 Ball? I had my headspace set at zero plus one on my first range trip & it would not run... But it did run good on 7.62 Nato...

I didn't feel comfortable increasing headspace (one click at a time) until it fired... Not wanting to have excessive headspace...

On my second range trip it was MUCH colder & the gun would not run reliably with Nato and headspace set at zero plus one, so I increased it to zero plus two & it ran fine. I did not have the Chinese ammo to try... Dang!

Cheers

Out of curiosity, I was experimenting with standard Go, No Go and Field gauges. Unfortunately, they would not pass through the T slot. Don't really want to grind areas of rim off the gauges just to see how conventional gauges compare with GI gauging and barrel clicks.

For the Norinco steel case .308 I have found 3 clicks out from zero works well and have not had an issue. I had tried 4 clicks and it worked fine also and no signs of bulging on the spent cases, but I will continue to use 3 clicks. I have never tried 2 clicks and maybe I will in the future just to see the results. Now I have not tried any other brand of ammo so I can't say what would be best for them. I also have a spam can of Norinco brass cased .308 that I have not tried yet. I am saving that for my next gun which will be a 1919/1917a1 water cooled.

It is possible that brass cased ammo may need a different headspacing then steel cased but I have never compared the dimensions between them to see if there was a difference.

Where can a guy find a good source of links to feed an M37? Marstar has no belts or links in 30-06. Can a guy buy these from the states, or are they concitered MG parts?

The States is the only source that I know of that has both of them in good supply. I have seen both belts and links for sale on ebay. Sometimes the seller is willing to ship to Canada and sometimes not.

Yeah I just want to know that customs won't hold them at the border. I'm assuming that the USA allows export of them? I've seen them on eBay. But they look like they're charging a premium compared to other private dealers

I experimented with inserting dummy rounds in some DAQ .30-06 links that I have, and I am doubtful that they would work. The belt is very stiff, and the rounds seem very tight in the links. I'm assuming that this is because of the slightly larger diameter of the 7.62.
Having said that, I've seen ads for '06 links stating that they will work with 8mm (I can see that) and 7.62x51.

There are some links available that will work with both the 30-06 and .308 but they are not pre 1945. I still think the whole capacity limit when it comes to links or belts that are post 1945 is really idiotic. It should be based on when the firearm they go in was originally developed, which is pre 1945. Whether you have a cloth belt loaded with 250 rounds and metallic links loaded with 250 rounds should not matter. As long as the gun they are used in was developed before 1945 it should be alright. Then again we are dealing with decision makers at the RCMP and CFC that don't think with common sense.
