Firearms restrictions being proposed in Alberta.

take one step out of your vehicle and you are legal
fish and game regard the door open and feet on the ground as legal

Uhhh, no they don't. Your ass has to be off the allowance or your shooting from a maintained road. Don't bother arguing with that, as I've seen the ticket written more than once (happen to know a few F&W boys), and your firearm can be seized if it becomes an issue of unsafe handling.
I love roadhunters; they keep all the deer in my lap a mile off the road. Works for me.

O.k, I just got back in the house from tearing off the "I love Alberta beef" sticker from the truck and car. Now I'm sending an e-mail and a hand written letter to the beef producers.

Before pulling out the pitchforks, you might want to confirm that it is in fact the Alberta Beef Producers who are putting this forward. We need a better source of info and confirmation of the proposal and who put it forward before we fly off the handle and start looking to hang someone.

It is. This evening I spoke with the "chair" of the sub committee of ABP that is bringing the proposal to the table. It is without a doubt their proposal. However he did make it sound like the AFGA wanted them to come up with something to present. This happens to be it.

Could you supply us with a link please! I've skimmed through their meeting minutes for the last 2 years and couldn't find it.

Thanks for the update, Chuck. I will be writing to my MLA and Mel Knight tomorrow about this. Perhaps a message to the ABP to express my thanks for trying to screw hunters and to explain that I may not support their product ever again. I will also pass this on to some hunting buddies who are not plugged in to this site.

Letter sent to the ABP asking for a copy of the policy. I'm glad you can get your checkoff money back from these guys if this is what they are doing.

Had someone pm me about Alberta's previous system.

Here's how it used to work: You would apply for a tag locally, presumably all local tags were put into a bowl and drawn at random by the local reps(fish and game if I remember correctly).

What happened is the local rep and his buddie's got drawn consistantly on a rotating basis and no one else got a tag. Now that is not the "official" version, just what actually happened.

In other words, the "official stakeholders" got tags.

Our priority system is the only system I've heard of that is undeniably and actually fair to all applicants, regardless of their affiliation.

WOW Where did you get that idea?????

By the way the links you provided did not lead to anything about the "Proposal list" we are talking about here.

You have to be off the road, defined as being on the other side of the fence or ditch(if present) If there is no fence or ditch there is a set distance you must be away from the centre of the road(I can't remember the number off the top of my head 15m or something).

Rural road allowances in Alberta are 33 ft centre or 66 ft wide or 12 rods or 1 chain.

I called the Alberta Beef Producers, and they said yes, they are pushing for this. I asked them to fax me a copy of it, and he said he will.

Tell everyone you know about this crap. Get as many people as you can to call them, e-mail, and write letters, and complain. Join a boycott of Alberta beef. DON'T BUY ANY ALBERTA BEEF PRODUCTS!

Please scan and post the fax if you get one, I would really like a rock solid confirmation to pass on to some hunting buddies.

Thanks,
Mark

Will do, but so far.....no fax.

Others should make the phone call, and ask for a fax, too. Maybe one of us will be lucky.

Meantime, lets also contact the NFA and CSSA about this matter. Lets also contact the NRA, so they can inform thier members not to buy any Alberta beef products when they are visiting Alberta. That also means not ordering a steak when they're in a resturaunt, etc.

I emailed the address given a few posts back, asking for an electronic copy. So far, no response. I will post the reply if I ever get one.
